Some trends come and go while others prove themselves worthy and are here to stay. At Utah Facial Plastics, many of the facial plastic surgery trend predictions below for 2017 were also popular in 2016 with anticipation of continued growth in the new year. The good news is and continues to be that there are so many great treatments for facial rejuvenation and Utah Facial Plastics continues to offer the latest techniques and procedures with proven results available today. Here is our list for 2017…

1) Fat Transfer

Fat injections have been popular for some time now and the popularity only continues to grow. Dr. Thompson performs fat transfer to areas of the face as a stand alone procedure and often in conjunction with facelift surgery for amazing results. Adding fat restores lost volume, fills in lines and wrinkles, and gives the skin and overall glow. Fat is often injected under the eyes to correct hollowing under the eyes and helps with dark circles as well.

It’s predicted to become an even easier process in 2017 through a micronized injectable process (ALMI) with little to no-downtime using a patients own fat. Another option includes cadaveric fat tissue (Allofill) that has been processed and comes ready to inject without the need to harvest from another area of a patients body. Time will tell how efficient and successful either of these options are but it’s certainly exciting as it can decrease and sometimes eliminate the need for continued treatments due to it’s permanency.

Whether through traditional methods or newer injectables, fat transfer will continue to be even more popular with patients in 2017.c_facelift-fat injections

2) New Hyaluronic Acid Injectables

Juvederm Volbella for lip definition and augmentation was the latest HA filler to hit the market and has been incredibly popular with our patients desiring a more subtle result. Volbella will likely only continue to increase in popularity with more and more patients trying it for lip augmentation and possibly other areas of the face.

Two new Restylane fillers were recently FDA approved and will be available for patients early this year. The first is Restylane Defyne for moderate to severe deeper wrinkles and folds with the second being Restylane Refyne for the treatment of regular moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Both fillers are manufactured with XpresHAn Technology that offers a range of flexibility and support in the skin and have shown to maintain effectiveness for up to one year. You can read more about these two fillers HERE.

3) Injectables and Preventative Treatments For Millennials

Utah Facial Plastics recently did a recent segment on millennials and plastic surgery with ABC4Utah’s Good Things Utah cast discussing the increase in injectable popularity among millennials. Much of this is due to increased exposure from celebrities and bloggers on social media as well as the fact that millennials tend to be savvy in their research on age prevention and are starting Botox treatments to prevent wrinkles from ever occurring.

4) Increase in Lip Augmentation Treatments

Many of the millennials coming in for injectables are desiring fuller lips. This is one area that has seen a huge increase in the last few years with celebrities like Kylie Jenner showing off fuller lips and showing what’s possible. It’s also more popular due to the fact that there are multiple options available to inject into the lips to achieve any given desired outcome. The treatment is quick, simple and involves no downtime.

The new injectable Volbella works great to restore lips that have lost volume due to aging and helps re-create a lip border that has thinned over time. For more information on this, watch UFP Nurse Injector Alfie Symes on a recent Fresh Living segment about lip augmentation HERE.lip-augmentation

5) Non-Surgical Fat Removal

2016 brought the new non-surgical fat removing injectable Kybella to the scene, which permanently eliminates fat under the chin without the need for surgery. While there is still downtime involved, we believe this treatment will continue to gain in popularity as more and more men and women desiring a more defined chin and jawline seek out a non-surgical option.

Kybella is also being trialed for use in other others of the body and face, including the jowls and above the knees. More information will likely be available for use to these areas this year.

6) Combination Treatments

With all the available options today it’s no surprise that practitioners are finding combination methods valuable for enhanced results. One popular option that we’ve done a lot of in 2016 is the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in combination with skin resurfacing with micro-needling and laser treatments. PRP really enhances the overall results and speeds up the healing time.

Other great combinations include chemical peels with micro-needling, skincare products with skin treatments and injectables as well as fat transfer in combination with surgical procedures.

7) More Men

Each year we continue to see an increase in men desiring facial rejuvenation and hair restoration procedures. Common non-surgical treatments men are coming in for include Botox and skin resurfacing for acne scars and fine lines and wrinkles.

With the advancements in technology and techniques, hair restoration continues to grow in popularity. Whether through hair transplant surgery with NeoGraft or PRP injections for increased density, 2017 will likely include more hair restoration procedures than previous years.
