For those of you that have met Dr. Thompson, you know that from the moment you meet him, you have an instant friend. Not only is Dr. Thompson an amazing surgeon, he is also extremely down to earth and an incredible individual. He will always take the time to visit with anyone and cares so much about his patients’ well-being and satisfaction. He lives in Northern Utah with his wife and four children and enjoys playing the piano, backpacking, basketball, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his family.
On top of all this, twice a year for over 10 years, Dr. Thompson has spent much of his time on humanitarian mission trips abroad providing free medical care to underserved children and young adults. “Part of my initial motivation to enter the medical field stemmed from a desire to make a contribution to those, both in this country and abroad, without the opportunities that many of us enjoy” –Scott K. Dr. Thompson has been traveling to Ecuador and Guatemala and is adding Vietnam this spring to provide care for children with congenital deformities such as: microtia, cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. He partners with the HUGS Foundation (Help Us Give Smiles) and MMFC (Medical Missions For Children) for these service trips to help children who would otherwise not have access to these resources.
“My desire to make a contribution through the sharing of my training and skills with others is realized in part each year as I join in Ecuador with experts in the field of facial plastic surgery from around the country. Our objective is to deliver needed surgical care to as many children and adolescents suffering from physical deformities as we can. We typically spend one week each year in Ecuador, where we work long hours each day in order to meet the needs of the throngs of children waiting for us when we arrive. Following our return to the United States, excellent physicians living in Ecuador attend to the post-operative needs of the patients and prepare others for our next mission.” –Scott K. Thompson, M.D.
