Facelift Salt Lake City

A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure designed to improve loose and sagging skin of the lower face and neck. The term “facelift” is somewhat misleading. Although a facelift can dramatically improve overall facial appearance, patients concerned with changes to the mid and upper face should consider an endoscopic forehead and midface lift. Conditions addressed by rhytidectomy include “jowls,” sagging cheeks, loose skin of the neck (“turkey neck”), or deepening lines at the corners of the mouth. Rhytidectomy is a safe, effective procedure performed to restore a more youthful appearance and less fatigued look while maintaining or improving function.

The facelift is performed in the operating room under deep sedation. Incisions are made just inside the hairline following the contour in front of the ear and continuing under the earlobe to the back of the ear and to the lower scalp. These incisions are hidden in facial boundaries and in the hair-line. With adequate healing, they fade with time to the point of imperceptibility and do not prevent the patient from wearing any hair style. The underlying muscle layer is tightened and excess skin is removed. This tightening of the muscle layer, as opposed to just the skin, produces the most natural results without the “pulled” look characteristic of older techniques. If the neck line requires attention, an additional small incision is made under the chin. Many fine stitches are used to close the incisions along with metal clips at the hairline.

Some of the advantages of a facelift include:

  • Reverses aging lower face and neck changes
  • Smooths and tightens the skin
  • Produces dramatic improvement in lower face and neck aging without changing you
  • Indicated for individuals in their 40s – 50s and older
  • Equally effective for men and women
  • Safe and effective

Recovery

Upon completion of the procedure, neck drains and facial dressings are applied to prevent excessive swelling and bruising. These are removed the following day. We recommend only light activity for the first week following surgery. Patients generally report little or no pain with facelift surgery. Most patients return to work after 2 weeks with makeup easily covering any residual bruising.
