Micro-Needling for Non-Surgical Skin Rejuvenation! Jill Talks With Troy Thompson From Good Things Utah.

October 15, 2013

Utah Facial Plastics is known for having the absolute latest advancements and treatments in facial rejuvenation and today we have their Head Master Esthetician, Jill, here to talk about an incredibly popular procedure called micro-needling!

Jill, what exactly is micro-needling and how does it work?

Troy, I’m incredibly passionate and excited about this procedure and thank you for having me today. Micro-needling essentially creates micro injuries in the skin triggering the skin to release growth factors  and new cells that begin to lay down a new infrastructure on the skin. Over time, that regenerated skin matures and produces collagen up to 80% of its original strength while self-correcting pigmentation. It’s amazing to see how wrinkles and pigmentation decrease and the overall texture of the skin radiates through this process.

Now I know people are alarmed when they hear something involves needles but I had the chance to watch you do this treatment at your Utah Facial Plastics event last week and was amazed at how relaxed your patient was. How is that possible?

The needles are so tiny you can barely feel the punctures, that’s the beauty of it! And I always apply a topical numbing cream prior to treatment and basically all patients report feeling like they are just getting a facial or any other spa treatment. You can see in the video that my patient is very relaxed and not in any sort of pain. I’m able to talk to her throughout the procedure, let her know what is being done and what kind of results she can expect in the days after her procedure as her skin rejuvenates and repairs itself. It’s non-surgical with no downtime!

You also use a number of different products on the face while doing this procedure. What is it that you’re using and why?

The channels in the skin actually remain open for up to 15 minutes from the point of injury and during that time, I add cosmeceutical forms of Vitamins C, E & B5 along with Hylauranic Acid to stimulate collagen growth. These are products many of us use, or should be using on our skin but the absorption rate is much higher when used during micro-needling. With the combination of trauma and product, patients see improvement in wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, scars, and overall skin texture!

Can this procedure be done often or what do you recommend?

It can differ for each patient but once a month is great for the recommended 3-6 treatments for maximum results. It takes 28 days for the full process to take effect after treatment so once a month would be just fine or you could space them out over a few months.

This is an exciting procedure that I know many will want to learn more about. How do they get in touch with you?

I offer consultations in both our Layton and Draper locations here in Utah and am offering a big discount for the next 3 weeks. Just call the office or visit our website for more information.
