What Is Juvederm XC?
JUVÉDERM® XC is the smooth gel filler that your doctor uses to instantly smooth away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.
JUVÉDERM® XC is manufactured using HYLACROSS™technology, creating a smooth-consistency gel. It is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment. With JUVÉDERM® XC you get the smooth results you expect, with the improved comfort you want.
Everyone will notice, but no one will know.
Where Is Juvederm Used?
Everyone ages differently and Juvederm® XC may be used to rejuvenate many different problem areas in the face. Dr. Thompson uses Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra XC, and Juvederm Ultra Plus depending on the area. Common areas treated with Juvederm XC are the smile lines (or “Parentheses”), Marionette Lines (on the sides of the mouth), and vertical lines around the mouth. Dr. Thompson also uses Juvederm for lip augmentation because of it’s smooth consistency and natural results.
How Does Juvederm Work?
Youthful, healthy skin contains an abundance of a hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) that reduces with aging. The lack of HA in the skin causes it to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds. Using a dermal filler like Juvederm XC safely restores hyaluronic acid in the face for instant rejuvenation. The result is smooth and natural because of the gel-like structure of Juvederm XC.
What Should I Expect From My Juvederm Treatment?
It is recommended that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), for about a week prior to receiving treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Upon arrival at our office, numbing cream is applied once Dr. Thompson has determined you are a candidate for Juvederm and has determined which formulation is right for you. We let that sit for about 20-30 minutes so treatment pain is minimal. Juvederm XC also contains lidocaine to minimize pain as well. The injection itself usually takes about 15 minutes. It’s typically recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, extended exposure to heat, and alcohol consumption for the remainder of the day.
What Should I Expect Following My Juvederm Treatment?
You may experience some tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injections sites. These typically clear up on their own in 7 days or less. We do provide an ice pack for you to take with you and place on the injection site(s) for a brief period.
Improvement is immediate but does seem to get even better for up to a week as the product smooths out and injection sites heal. Juvederm XC lasts between 6 months to 1 year depending on the patient. Most patients need just one syringe at treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing and improve skin volume but more than one syringe may be recommended depending on depth of folds and wrinkles. If the full syringe isn’t used at the initial appointment, we bank it at our office for you to come back and use when ready for no extra charge.
