Plastic Surgery to Look Less Tired Reported Trend of 2016

February 3, 2017

Plastic-surgery-to-look-less-tiredWe hear it all that time at Utah Facial Plastics…patients often turn to facial plastic surgery to look less tired and rightfully so. Under-eye bags and excess upper lid skin can make one look more tired and aged than they actually.

A new study by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) highlights this trend as noted by participating plastic surgeons from across the country. The plastic surgeons noted an increase in procedures to look less tired such as eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, to correct droopy eyelids and under-eye bags. Such features can certainly make one look more tired than they actually are.

“When people look tired, that usually manifests in the upper part of the face,” explained the president of AAFPRS, Fred Fedok, MD. “Regardless of age, toward the end of the day or after several days of poor sleep, the face starts to droop around the eye due to the muscle fatigue, giving the look of lack of alertness.”

Another common reason many of the participating plastic surgeons (49%) reported patients mention for under-going surgery is the need to stay competitive in the workforce. “The saying ’60 is the new 40′ is true,” said Dr Fedok. “People are more active healthier and more social into older age than ever before, and they come in because their outer appearance doesn’t match up with how invigorated they feel inside. This is further exacerbated by the popularity of social media photos. Everyone has a camera at all times and people are hyperaware of how they look.”

Many reputable non-surgical treatments are driving an increase in cosmetic procedures as well. With minimal downtime and quick results, it’s no wonder more and more patients are turning to non-surgical treatments, such as Botox and fillers, for facial rejuvenation as well.
