Otoplasty (Ears)

Otoplasty is a procedure performed for those who feel that their ears protrude excessively. Adults of any age and children are candidates for this procedure. In children, it is best to wait until age 6 or 7 when the ears have achieved much of their adult size. By this age, the child has a personal interest in improving his/her appearance and is more motivated to comply with pre and post-operative instructions and actually look forward to the procedure.

Procedure Benefits

Under light sedation or local anesthesia, incisions are made along the back of each ear. Permanent sutures are placed to re-create the ears' natural folds and to move the ears closer to the head. When a satisfactory, natural appearing result has been achieved, a dressing is placed over both ears and is removed the following day. A few benefits of Otoplasty may include:

  • Effectively and permanently improves position of the ears
  • Can be performed under local anesthesia or light sedation
  • Highly effective with low complication rate

Recovery

The term "neck lift" has been applied by patients who have concerns about sagging skin and muscle of the neck. Although neck liposuction can effectively treat those with excessive deposits of neck fat, those with sagging neck skin can most effectively be treated with a standard lower facelift (rhytidectomy). With a facelift, incisions are well camouflaged, and dramatic effects in the lower face and neck can be achieved. See our facelift page for more information.
