Some Overview About Dr. Thompson’s Chemical Peel Treatment

It is a misconception to say facial skin rejuvenation is achievable only through surgeries. It is not true. It is not always about facelift, chin augmentation, or cheek liposuction when you have facial skin concerns. Some forms of skin flaws are treatable through non-surgery procedures and chemical treatments. One of the popular cosmetic treatments nowadays is the use of chemical peel. Salt Lake City Plastic Surgeon Dr. Scott K. Thompson has substantial training and experience to remedy facial skin problems. Here is a quick Q&A to provide you overview of the Chemical Peel Treatment procedure:

What is the primary goal of chemical peel treatment?
The primary goal is to improve the look and feel of your facial skin. It is an ideal remedy for light to mild skin issues.

What specific cosmetic issues are treatable?
Chemical peels treatment can erase wrinkles caused by sun damage and ageing; remove tiny lines around the mouth and under the eyes; treat certain types of acne; heal mild scars; and reduce dark patches (melasma), age spots and freckles.

How does it work?
It improves the skin appearance through application of chemical solution. The solution will cause the old skin to peel off and will eventually give you a smoother and less wrinkled skin.

Can it treat all types of facial skin problems?
No. As stated above, the treatment is only ideal for light to mild skin problems. For example, skin drooping and severe wrinkles are generally beyond the scope of chemical peels. Once Dr. Thompson sees your specific skin issues, he will immediately tell you whether chemical treatment is appropriate or not.

Can it only treat the facial skin?
No. Chemical peel is also a suitable treatment on the neck and hands with respect to the same issues mentioned above for the facial skin.

What type of chemical is used?
It is a chemical exfoliant which can either be in acid or base solution. The specific chemical is determined by the depth of penetration and the layer of skin that is removed with a peel. Hence, chemical peels are graded according to required penetration.
