Strengthening Your Inner Beauty

With 2014 right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about resolutions and plans for the New Year. For many, it’s saving money. And maybe even money for plastic surgery. The most common goal is to eat better and begin a dynamite exercise regimen. Especially since that high school reunion is right around the corner and you’d sure love to show off your new slim figure! While those are great and important for overall confidence and physical health, don’t forget to work on that inner beauty and not just focus on the physical.

But wait! Isn’t this a plastic surgery blog?! Yes! And I’m here to tell you inner and outer beauty goes hand in hand. When you feel beautiful on the inside, it shows on the outside. It also works the other way around. Correcting pigmented skin, having a facelift to look more rejuvenated, or getting a rhinoplasty can help patients feel more confident and comfortable interacting with others. But we also know too much focus on only outer beauty can leave little time and effort to spend on the inside. Here are some fab ways to get in touch with your inner glam this New Year while you’re also working hard at the gym!

1) Find Passion.

Locate those talents and gifts that make you feel alive and motivate you each day. Develop them and continually push and amaze yourself with progress. Use your skills to create self-satisfaction and your inner beauty will grow and radiate.

2) Forget Yourself.

“Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music – the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.” – Henry Miller. Serving others creates meaning in our own lives. Also being part of something bigger than you, whether with a job or church organization, creates meaning. Working with others toward one common goal is a great way to connect and progress in life.

3) Do Something Hard.

And I mean so hard you may cry or have an occasional meltdown. It may be a new challenge you take on or one thrown at you such as a major illness or tragedy. Conquering something you never thought possible will leave you with a new level of respect for yourself that no one can take from you. “Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one’s courage.” – Anais Nin.

4) Take Time For Yourself.

Get away once or twice a week and do something that makes you feel happy and fulfilled. Just do something you love and live in the moment. Continually nurturing yourself and taking breaks will help make you better at attending to the needs of others.

5) Develop Relationships.

Learning how to love and be loved is a great blessing and always an opportunity for growth. We shine through the eyes of those we’re loved by and the reflection grows inside of us with each new relationship. Take time to nurture your marriage, spend quality time with friends, and learn the art of give and take in any relationship.

6) Know Yourself.

Know your strengths and your weaknesses. That way you can focus on utilizing your positive attributes, improving what weaknesses you can, and letting go of the ones you can’t. So what if you’re not an amazing cook like your best friend? And you can be a wee bit forgetful. But you’re a hard worker, funny, and have amazing style. “He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened.” –Lao-

7) Be Grateful.

The most beautiful people I know are the ones that are just grateful for life. Because they are grateful for life, they make the most out of it. After all, you only get one shot. So do your best, live it to the fullest, and most importantly…enjoy it! Your love for life will radiate and your inner beauty will glow like you thought possible.
