Neck

neck

The neck is a common area of concern for many patients. With aging and often genetics, patients come in desiring stronger definition and prominence around the chin and jawline. Part of the problem is often due to what patients refer to as their “turkey gobbler”, where the skin sags and droops around the neck. Another common term is the “double-chin”. Dr. Thompson performs neck procedures, often in conjunction with a facelift, to help address these concerns.

Neck Lift

The term “neck lift” has been applied by patients who have concerns about sagging skin and muscle of the neck. Although neck liposuction can effectively treat those with excessive deposits of neck fat, those with sagging neck skin can most effectively be treated with a standard lower facelift (rhytidectomy). With a facelift, incisions are well camouflaged, and dramatic effects in the lower face and neck can be achieved. See our facelift page for more information.

Neck Liposuction

A strong jaw line and a sharp chin / neck contrast contribute to both a fit and a youthful appearance. Excessive deposits of fat under the chin can be congenital (genetically inherited), or the result of weight gain. In some, these deposits remain in spite of losing weight or being thin elsewhere. A “double chin” can detract greatly from an otherwise attractive face.

Submental liposuction (removal of fat from under the chin) is performed to restore a more aesthetically pleasing contour to the neck and jaw line. This procedure is often combined with chin implant for those with a receding chin or facelift for those with sagging neck skin.
