Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is able to treat many skin conditions, including moderate to severe wrinkles, scars, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. This treatment is done at our Layton location by Drs. Thompson and Henstrom. This type of laser skin resurfacing has a shorter length of downtime and less risk of complication than traditional laser resurfacing. Here is everything you need to know about CO2 laser skin resurfacing.

A typical candidate for CO2 laser skin resurfacing would be someone who is concerned about the overall appearance of the skin on the face, neck and/or decollete.

Skin Concerns:

  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull skin

Individuals with certain skin types, skin tones or medical conditions may not be ideal candidates for this procedure. This can be determined during your initial consultation and alternative recommendations can also be made during this time.

Before being treated it is important that you have not tanned the treated areas and that you do not have plans to be in the sun without sunscreen for an extended amount of time.

The day of your CO2 laser resurfacing treatment you’ll arrive at our office with a clean face and the numbing process will begin. Topical numbing cream is applied to the areas being treated to minimize any discomfort. Once the numbing cream has had enough time to do its job, it is then cleaned off and the treatment will begin. Dr. Thompson or Dr. Henstrom then make “passes” with the laser along the face while their assistant cools the face with the lasers rolling tip that protects the epidermis of the skin before, during, and after treatment. Once this entire process is complete, the patient is free to go home. We do recommend they have a ride.

The recovery process takes approximately 7-10 days. During this time the treated areas are going to look and feel like a sunburn. The damaged outer layers of the skin will slough off revealing tighter, brighter skin. The results will continue to improve over the next 3-6 months.
