Am I good candidate for cosmetic surgery?
Most patients with legitimate cosmetic concerns who are both physically and mentally healthy are typically good candidates for cosmetic surgery. During your initial consultation, it is really important that you are honest with your surgeon about any health problems you may have and provide a full medical history. It’s also important to talk to your surgeon about what your expectations are to be sure they are realistic.
What’s the “right age” to have cosmetic surgery?
There really is not a right age to have cosmetic surgery. The concerns and anatomy of each patient are unique and individualized. Your surgeon can discuss your concerns and the best timing for cosmetic procedure, if any, during an initial consultation.
Is cosmetic surgery safe?
With any surgery, there is always risk involved. At Utah Facial Plastics, both of our surgeons are dual board-certified facial plastic surgeons with a highly trained team of medical professionals.
During your pre and post-operative visits, all possible risks are discussed as well as recommendations to minimize the possibility of occurrence. Each patient goes home with detailed instructions that are important to review before and after surgery.
Should I go to a board-certified facial plastic surgeon?
For a facial cosmetic procedure, absolutely. Both Drs. Thompson and Henstrom are board-certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. They are devoted exclusively to facial plastic surgery and are required by The American Board of Plastic Surgery to continue medical education in those fields.
Should I be concerned about where I have my procedure?
Yes, your safety depends on it. It’s important to discuss where your procedure will be performed with your surgeon during the initial consultation. The more you know about the process, the better.
How can I prepare for Cosmetic surgery?
Preparing for surgery adequately will help minimize risk and increase the likelihood of a successful outcome. Two to four weeks prior to surgery you will come in for a pre-operative visit to finalize plans, go over any questions you may have and to discuss what to do before and after surgery.
We always recommend that patients stop taking any blood thinner, such as Ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil, 2 weeks prior to surgery. If a patient smokes, we do require that they stop taking ANY nicotine products (smoking, nicotine gum/lozenges/patches) at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery, if not longer.
Do I need to have medical insurance to have cosmetic surgery?
Most cosmetic surgeries are not covered by insurance. If you are someone who is having a reconstructive or functional nasal surgery, insurance typically covers this type of procedure as typically deemed medically necessary.
During your initial phone call, feel free to ask our knowledgeable receptionist about any insurance questions.
Do I need to prepare for an overnight stay in a hospital?
Most of our surgeries are outpatient procedures allowing you to go home as soon as deemed fit by your surgeon. With all of our traditional facelift patients, our surgeons do highly recommend an overnight stay in the hospital to help monitor pain and any chance of complication.
Are there alternatives to undergoing cosmetic surgery?
Depending on what your expectations are, yes. We offered both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic options at Utah Facial Plastics. Popular non-surgical options include a variety of fillers, Botox, skin treatments and laser procedures.
What Does Cosmetic Surgery cost?
You want to make sure that cosmetic surgery is something that you can afford, whether you are paying cash or financing the procedure. If you opt for financing, look at the different options available and decide whether or not you are comfortable with the monthly fees and how long it will require to pay off the procedure. We work with both Care Credit and Key bank if you are looking for affordable financing options.
