When patients are new to Botox, the first question that often comes to mind is, “Does it hurt to get Botox?” The answer we give is that is that Botox treatments are not very painful but you definitely feel a little sting with each poke. Our expert injectors are very gentle and make the process as comfortable as possible. Botox injections are quick and an ice pack is given following treatment to help. Also, the needle that is used for Botox versus a traditional shot is significantly smaller, which helps makes the “pinch” that much easier.

Where on the face can I get Botox?

  • Glabella (between the eyebrows)
  • Forehead
  • Crow’s Feet (around the eyes)
  • Brow lift
  • Nasalis (bunny lines)
  • Dimpled chin
  • Masseter (Clenching/TMJ)
  • Neck bands
  • Upper lip (for gummy smile or lip flip)

Is There Downtime with Botox?

There is no downtime with Botox but there is a small risk of bruising. We always recommend avoiding blood thinners such as vitamin E, Ibuprofen, and fish oil for prevention. When you go to an experienced provider, bruising is rare but can happen. The results typically take anywhere from 3-10 days to take full effect and lasts between 3 and 5 months on average.

What to Avoid Immediately After Botox

Following a Botox treatment you will want to avoid laying flat on your back and rubbing or massaging the injected area for 4 hours after treatment. It’s also best to avoid exercise for 24 hours if possible.

Are there Side Effects?

Just like any medication, Botox also has has the possibility of unwanted side effects. While rare, they are important to be aware of.

  • Minor swelling or bruising around treated area
  • An allergic reaction to Botox
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Drooping eyebrow/eyelid
  • Flu-like symptoms

Choosing the Right Provider

This is a critical step when considering any cosmetic treatment. Seeing a provider with the right credentials and experience will minimize risk and help ensure a positive outcome. An experienced injector better understands correct placement and how to provide the best results possible.
