Concerned with lower face aging but not sure if you are a good candidate for a facelift surgery? Facelift candidates include both men and women and typically range in age from 45-60 years old. Possible candidates often present with skin laxity, moderate wrinkles and saggy jowls.
What is the best age for a facelift?
There is not necessarily an exact recommendation for when is best to undergo facelift surgery. Each patient has different concerns and is in various stages of the aging process. Genetics and environmental factors play a huge role in the way we age. For example, patients that live in a more humid environment typically tend to age differently than someone who lives in a drier climate. Each patient also comes with unique personal and financial circumstances that impact when the right time for a facelift may or may not be for them.
Patients in their 40’s are often primarily concerned with jowl laxity. Such patients are typically great candidates for a MACSlift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension), the preferred “mini-facelift” technique performed by our surgeons in both Draper and Layton, Utah. This is a less invasive lift that addresses jowling and modest neck laxity. UFP full facelifts are recommended for patients with more extensive neck and lower face concerns.
Filler vs Facelift Candidates
Filler works well to address lines and wrinkles in the face/neck and restore lost volume in the mid-face. Injecting filler into the mid-face can lift lax skin to a certain degree. At a certain point, so many syringes may be needed that it makes more sense economically to look at surgical options for rejuvenation. Too much filler for full face correction can also look unnatural and cause patients to look “overfilled”. This is often referred to as “filler fatigue”. An advantage that UFP offers is that we specialize in injectable procedures, facelift surgery and a variety of procedures to help you best achieve your goals.
Signs of Facial Aging
If you are noticing moderate wrinkling, saggy jowls, loss of muscle tone in the face, and laxity in the neck and lower face, it may be time to start considering a facelift. As we get into our 40’s and 50’s we notice all the signs of facial aging but may not feel as old as we look.
Facelift candidates are going to range in age and our surgeons have performed surgery on patients from their late 30’s to early 80’s. We often consult with patients who return a year or number of years later for surgery when they or emotionally, mentally, physically and/or financially ready. It’s a big decision and something to fully be prepared for ahead of time. At times, our surgeons have also recommended patients desiring facelift surgery to wait and consider non-surgical options until they are older. It’s best to consult with one of our top utah facial plastic surgeons to learn more about what is right for you.
