Under-eye hollowing can make a person appear more tired or stressed than they actually are. It’s often a sign of aging as we lose volume in the face but can also just be a genetic feature. To treat under-eye hollows, also known as tear troughs, our providers often use filler for appropriate patients. Fat injections are another option performed by our facial plastic surgeons for more permanent results.
The area under the eyes is very delicate and really requires an experienced, knowledgeable provider when it comes to any injections in that area. Utah Facial Plastics has the benefit of not only experienced injectors, but can offer both non-surgical and surgical options since filler is not the right for everyone with under-eye concerns. It some cases, it can make puffiness under the eyes even worse or cause what is called a “tyndall effect” where a bluish tint can be seen under the eyes. Both are a risk for any under-eye filler injection but some patients are at greater risk than others. There are also patients who will get a much better outcome with a surgical treatment versus multiple syringes of filler that looks unnatural and get get very expensive with repeat treatments. It’s best to meet with one of our UFP providers who will discuss your concerns with you and make appropriate recommendations according to your needs.
What filler is most commonly used for under-eye hollowing?
That being said, filler can be a great option for the tear troughs. So what filler is most commonly used for under-eye hollowing? Our injectors at UFP prefer Restylane because there is generally less swelling. Restylane is less hydrophilic, which means it doesn’t attract as much water as Juvederm products, therefore less likely to swell. Though it varies for every patient, Restylane typically lasts around one year in the under-eye area.
How much does under-eye filler cost?
A 1.0 mL syringe of Restylane costs $560 and during the month of October 2018, we are offering $75 off with our nurse injectors. For patients with less hollowing, a half syringe (0.5) may be recommended and costs $350. Purchases are made at the time of treatment in either our Layton or Draper location.
