It’s a trend we’re seeing across the nation with the explosion of social media….millennials sharing plastic surgery photos on Instagram and other forms of social media. The stigma of such things as Botox, lip augmentation and popular surgical procedures is lifting, especially for this age group.
It’s somewhat of a cycle with social media. There’s been an increase in cosmetic procedures among millennials who simply want to improve their appearance in “selfies”. Many of them, especially bloggers, will post about the procedures they had done and the difference it made, thus further increasing others to seek out such procedures.
Part of it is also the fact that there are so many non-surgical procedures today that you can literally do on your lunch break and return back to work. Botox, fillers, and many skin treatments fall under this category. Millennials are also quite savvy as well and seek out such treatments for preventative reasons, which delays the onsite of wrinkles and laxity in the skin. This form of anti-aging is typically more successful then waiting until one is in their 40’s or 50’s.
The NewYork Post recently shared an article introducing Ryan Mercurio, a 27 year-old female who shared her recent lip injection results a year ago.
“I feel like every girl in this generation sends selfies when she gets her hair done or is trying on a new outfit, or just looks good and wants encouragement. Of course, I want people to give me feedback [on my lips].”
She also says her peers are doing the same, often through SnapChat or texts.
The Kylie Jenner effect definitely has had an impact on girls interested in lip augmentation. While controversial, the procedure is completely safe, can be removed if the patient is unhappy, and when done right, the results are natural and not over-done. The most common product for lip augmentation is Juvederm or Juvederm Volbella.
