The Best Non-Surgical Anti-Aging Treatments To Get In Your 40’s

Patients often report concerns of aging signs that really start to crop up in their forties. Lines tend to begin showing with the most common places being between the brows, in the forehead, around the eyes and lips, and on both sides of the mouth (smile lines). Other not-so-fun tell-tale signs of aging are tear trough formation (hollowing under the eyes) drooping jowls and neck laxity. Fortunately, there are a number of non-surgical anti-aging treatments that can be done to treat these concerns and prevent the advancement of lines and wrinkles.

Lose The Lines

Botox and dermal fillers and the number 1 and 2 most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments (according to the ASPS) and it’s no wonder why. Both work great for facial rejuvenation, especially when used together. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing muscles in the face to keep contracting to form lines and wrinkles. The most common areas for Botox are between the brow’s, in the forehead, and to the “crow’s feet” around the eyes. But small amounts of Botox, when placed in the right area, can lift the brow, help with under-eye wrinkles and smoker’s lines, and even diminish neck bands.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, fill in wrinkles and deep folds in the face to restore lost volume and even augment certain areas, such as the cheeks and lips. With so many options available today, a combination of fillers is often used for various parts of the face. For example, Voluma (used with a ViveLift) works well to lift and volumize the cheek or mid-face area while Juvederm is more so designed for lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds), in the lips, or to under-eye tear troughs to rejuvenate the eye area. It’s best to consult with your injector to see which filler, or combination of fillers, is right for you.

Botox and Fillers

Smooth the Skin

While Botox and fillers work great to smooth, fill and restore, other treatments may be required to address skin concerns. Although, a recent study does show that Botox improves the appearance of the skin as well.

Common skin concerns patients have in their forties are hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, dull skin, and very fine lines and wrinkles that can often be addressed with skin resurfacing procedures. For pigmentation and sunspots, IPL or fotofacial treatments work incredibly well when done in a series of 2-6 treatments. To resurface lines and scars on the skin, chemical peels, micro-needling with platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments, or a fractional CO2 laser treatment will do the trick. A fractional CO2 laser treatment performed by Dr. Thompson goes deeper into the skin (into the dermis) but does involve a 7-10 day recovery period. Chemical peels and micro-needling treatments require multiple treatments (2-6) but result in very minimal downtime.

Fractional CO2 laser treatments can be used in specific areas only, such as under the eyes for crepe-iness, or around the mouth for vertical lip lines (smoker lines). They are often used in combination with Botox and/or dermal fillers as well. It’s best to consult with one of our professionals to see the best plan for treatment.

Thicken Your Hair

Some patients begin, or have been experiencing, male or female baldness while in their forties. Or they report thinner hair in general and may have a lot of breakage they would like to address. Mild cases of hair loss, or breakage and thinning, are perfect situations for PRP Hair Therapy.

PRP Hair Therapy is a non-surgical treatment to stimulate hair growth and strengthen the follicle to produce thicker strands of hair. This procedure is done by injecting platelet rich plasma (growth factors) from your own blood back into the scalp. The PRP is also micro-needled into thinning areas at following the injections. At least 2 treatments are needed, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, with occasional touch-ups from then on.
