PRP with ACell for Hair Restoration Available at Utah Facial Plastics

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) has been widely used to preserve, thicken and promote growth in hair follicles. A series of injectable treatments are done, where your blood is drawn and mixed in a centrifuge to separate the blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. The PRP is then injected into the scalp. Usually a series of 3-5 treatments are recommended every 4 weeks for maximum results. Improvement can be noticed within a 3-12 month period. Although this treatment does not always give patients the results they would like to see, three-fourths usually see good to great improvement.  Results include thickening of existing hair and awakening of dormant hair follicles.

A newer technology has been shower quicker, more enhanced results. PRP, with the addition of ACell, is almost like “PRP on steroids.”  Acell is an FDA approved product that has been used for many years in cellular regeneration and wound healing.  It has more recently been used and combined with patients stem cells (PRP) and has shown to improve hair regrowth.

PRP with Acell has shown results after only one treatment in as little as 6-12 weeks and continued improvement into a full year.  One treatment is recommended, although some patients might need another one within a year’s time. There is no exact answer on how long PRP or PRP with Acell will work. Maintenance is re-evaluated and recommended anywhere from 1-5 years following treatment. This depends on many factors, mainly the health and genetics of each individual patient.

Utah Facial Plastics is proud to offer these treatments as an option for hair restoration. One of our most recent treatments was with AJ from 97.1 ZHT. One treatment of PRP with ACell was done. I was able to speak to him following his treatment to get some feedback on his experience.

Sydnee:  How was your experience receiving PRP with Acell and were you nervous?

AJ: I think if you’re NOT nervous, you’re kidding yourself.  But, really, there was nothing to be nervous about.  The whole process only took a little over an hour. The numbing injections brought a little discomfort, but after that, it was pretty nominal pain receiving the PRP injections.

Sydnee:  How did you feel following your treatment? Was there any pain?

AJ: I felt just fine!  Went to work and had a normal day.  My head was a little tender, but not enough to really interrupt any of my daily activities.
