What To Expect with a Surgical and Non-Surgical Lip Flip

Voluptuous lips are a sign of youth and unfortunately, as we age we lose the collagen that makes up volume in the face and lips. Older, more mature patients do not necessarily want fuller lips but do appreciate a more youthful lip. This is where ‘lip flips’ are the perfect solution. Volume is not being added with filler but instead, the natural upper lip that has “rolled in” with age is then everted to a more youthful position. This helps restore balance to the overall appearance of the face.

Non-Surgical Lip Flip

A non-surgical lip flip is achieved with Botox, which flips the upper lip out just enough to make it appear slightly fuller and more youthful. This option is extremely temporary lasting about two to three months. Only a few units of Botox is used so the treatment is quick at approximately 10 minutes. Botox results are natural and appear approximately five to ten days after treatment.

Surgical Lip Flip

A surgical lip flip is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that is done in-office under local anesthesia. It takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes for our surgeons to perform and recovery is quite simple. A candidate for a surgical lip flip would be someone with an elongated upper lip who is desiring a more youthful appearance.

Typically, when an individual has an elongated upper lip you cannot see their upper teeth a rest because the lip hangs lower and covers their teeth. During a lip lift procedure the excess skin on the upper lip between the bottom of the nostrils and the upper lip is removed. The incision is camouflaged under the nostrils and overtime, is completely undetectable to others.

At Utah Facial Plastics we specialize is both surgical and non-surgical lip flip options. Surgery is a better option for patients with a significant amount of elongation, which can be determined during a complimentary consultation.
