Five Times You Should Not Get Botox

botoxBotox is the number one cosmetic procedure as it works incredibly well to smooth wrinkles and prevent them for becoming further etched into ones skin. The procedure is quick & effective with little risk of adverse reaction when administered by an experienced licensed professional. Common areas for Botox are the forehead, crow’s feet and between the brows. Botox works by temporarily weakening or paralyzing the muscle so certain movements that cause wrinkling cannot be made.

Though a very safe and effective treatment, there are instances where one should not get a Botox.

1) When You’re Pregnant

No official studies have been conducted on Botox or fillers during pregnancy, for obvious reasons. Therefore, it’s best to stay away during pregnancy as risk to the unborn fetus is unknown.

2) Right Before Major Physical Activity

Again, no official studies have been done on the impact of physical exercise following a Botox treatment but it’s recommended you wait approximately 24 hours to avoid the chance of Botox migrating to other areas of the face. So if you cannot wait 24 hours, it’s best to reschedule for another time.

3) If You Need Volume Correction or Surgery

Botox can do a lot but it won’t provide you lift saggy skin. Nor will it fill in deep folds and wrinkles in the face, which is what fillers are for. It’s best to consult with a qualified injector who can set realistic expectations and make appropriate recommendations to help you acheive your goals.

4) If You Want Immediate Results for An Event

Because Botox takes some time to kick in, do not schedule your appointment the same day you have an event that you are wanting smoother skin for. Try to schedule your appointment approximately 1-2 weeks prior to your event to ensure effectiveness. This will also allow any bruising to heal, should any bruising result with treatment. Taking arnica a few days before can minimize your risk of bruising as well as avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for about one week prior to treatment.

5) If You Really Don’t Need It

Botox is a great preventative treatment for keeping lines and wrinkles from ever forming. It can also lift the brow a bit if you are desiring a non-surgically lifting effect. But don’t start it too early just for the sake of doing it. Otherwise, you are wasting money you could be investing in skincare or facials.
