Six Surprising Facts About A Facelift in Utah

We are often bombarded with advertisements for facelifts in a cream, serum, or quick hour on your lunch break. Have you ever wondered what actually works? Have you had a promising facelift procedure that didn’t actually produce the results you were hoping for? With the high rate of facelift surgeries Dr. Thompson performs, we’ve seen and heard it all and have some helpful information on what to expect with a great facelift in Utah.

Facelift Fact #1

Despite the name, a facelift doesn’t actual lift and tighten the entire face. A surgical facelift treats the lower face by lifting the jowls and loose neck skin. Depending on the patients needs and concerns, other procedures may be done at the same time to address the upper part of the face, such as a browlift or eyelid lift. Dr. Thompson’s facelift in Utah is different than a traditional facelift in that it does address the midface as well, providing more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Facelift Fact #2

Just as facelifts don’t address the entire face, they don’t necessary address all skin issues either. You may have fine lines and wrinkles or age spots that still may be of concern. These can often be addressed by adding certain procedures, such as dermabrasion or fat injections, and undergoing recovery at the same time. Many patients continue Botox® and or dermal filler treatments following facelift surgery and of course, a good skincare regimen is also important. CO2 laser treatments can be done at a later date to address skin issues as well.

Facelift Fact #3

There are many facelifts marketed today that promise amazing results in a short amount of time with little downtim, such as the lifestyle lift. Keep in mind that if it’s too good to be true, it typically is! The initial results may be good, but if a facelift doesn’t address the deeper tissues beneath the skin (also known as the SMAS) then it’s unlikely to achieve long lasting results. And that is hard for many to deal with when the price tag is so high.

For patients will less neck laxity, Dr. Thompson’s in-office MACS Facelift procedure does address the SMAS layer and has the added benefit of shortened recovery and no general anesthesia. It’s a great option for the right candidate and you can learn more on our MACS Facelift page.

Facelift Fact #4

Non-surgical procedures advertised as facelifts aren’t facelifts at all. They may provide facial rejuvenation but if you have moderate to severe jowling and loose neck skin, you aren’t going to get the result you want through non-surgical treatments. These options typically involve laser treatments, botox, and/or dermal fillers and are great for many. They just don’t compare to a full facelift procedure.

Facelift Fact #5

A true, well-done facelift results in natural looking and dramatic improvement in your overall facial appearance. The “wind-tunnel” look of past generations when skin was simply tightened and trimmed is long gone. Skilled facelift surgeons now reposition the deeper structure of the face leaving patients looking up to 15 years younger.

Facelift Fact #6

When researching a good facelift surgeon, it’s critical to see someone who specializes in both the surgical and non-surgical approaches for facial rejuvenation. It may not necessarily be a dangerous thing to choose the wrong procedure but can be a big waste of time and money. A great facelift specialist, such as Dr. Thompson, can provide you with recommendations to best achieve your goals and manage your expectations properly.
