TOP COSMETIC PROCEDURES FOR MEN IN 2018

Each yeah the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery puts together data each year on the most popular procedure trends for the year before. Based on the last two years, 2018 is putting the focus on nonsurgical treatments; Botox, injectable fillers and  IPL/Fotofacial treatments. Surgical procedures include liposuction, male breast reduction for gynecomastia, and blepharoplasty.

Choosing to undergo cosmetic procedures for both men and women once held a stigma in society that has lifted over as the pursuit of self-improvement is embraced. Men are wanting to maintain and enhance their appearance just like their female counterpart. Here are the top cosmetic procedures for men in 2018.

Non-Surgical  Cosmetic Treatments for Men

Botox was the top procedure for men in 2016 and will likely remain on top for a number of years. Just last year, former NFL Player,  Deion Sanders, became a spokesman for Botox and opened up about how removing some unwanted lines made him feel and look better. To read more about it click here. Botox is a simple treatment that can be done without an obvious change The nickname “Brotox” has become a popular term and familiar to the general public. Botox is mainly used to treat expression lines in the forehead caused by movement. It weakens the muscle where it has been injected so the lines are softened and do not get worse.

Second, we have dermal fillers, and somewhat like botox they are used to treat superficial to deep lines in the place where creases have been made or volume has been lost. Most fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid, which our own bodies make naturally that depletes with aging. For example, fillers can be injected into the under-eye hollows for a tired aging eye or to the corners of the mouth to improve what appears to be a frown. Dermal fillers can also be used to achieve a non-surgical nose job.

More men are caring about their skin health. There are even medical spas specific to men only. Going a step further than facials designed for men, the idea of non-surgical laser treatments to further improve the quality of their skin has become more appealing. IPL treatments to improve brown spots, broken capillaries, and redness in the skin can be performed in less than an hour, have minimal downtime and achieve a more dramatic result than your typical facial treatment.

Surgical Cosmetic Procedures for Men

Even the most fit men start to lose certain features of their body that they once had. As we get older, fat begins to build and our metabolism slows down. Masculine angles soften, especially around  the neck, chin, love handles, and abdomen. Neck Liposuction is a procedure that can be done in office under local anesthetic in an hour. There is some downtime, but a clean jaw line can drastically improve one’s appearance.

Another popular cosmetic procedure among men is male breast reduction. Excess male breast tissue can occur during puberty and in adults too, due to a lack or loss of testosterone. This is an issue that can affect a man’s self esteem negatively in a big way.  Unless hormonal issues are addressed before this type of issue occurs, having a procedure will likely be the answer to correct this problem.

A third common male surgical procedures is blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. Eyes are known to be one of the first places people look when meeting someone and is the first part of the face to show aging. It is shocking that this procedure is not number one and when done well, can have a big improvement on making the entire face look younger. Hooded upper eyelids and bags under the eyes often develop with aging and can be addressed by having this procedure done. A well performed procedure should look natural and in this case, it is important to seek a facial plastic surgeon. This procedure can be done in 1-2 hours and again, there is some downtime, but can greatly rejuvenate the eyes and even improve peripheral vision.

Cosmetic procedures are designed to make both men and women look and feel their best. If trends continue in 2018, we expect to see the number of men seeking cosmetic procedures increase. Here at Utah Facial Plastics, we are seeing more men coming in for all types of procedures including facelifts and hair restoration. What new procedures will make the stats in the years to come? Time will tell!
