Dysport®

What is Dysport?

Dysport in Utah is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport is very much like Botox in that it uses Botulinum to weaken muscle action in the wrinkle causing muscles of the forehead, between the brows and beside the eyes.

Dysport FAQs

In order to avoid discomfort and to allow greater precision of delivery, the physician uses a tiny needle to administer Dysport to the specified facial area. Most patients remark that discomfort is minimal and lasts only briefly. Dysport generally takes 2-7 days to take effect. A few benefits of this procedure are:

  • Effective for treatment of:
    • Forehead lines
    • Vertical lines between the brows
    • Lines forming at the corners of eyes
    • Can assist in treatment of lines around mouth
  • Easy to tolerate with minimal pain and no downtime
  • Safe and effective

The best candidates for Botox are men and women concerned with facial aging, typically in the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Botox is often used in combination with dermal fillers to provide full facial rejuvenation without surgery. Learn more on our Non-Surgical Facelift page.

Younger patients often begin getting dermal fillers and/or botox injections as a way to prevent or stave off signs of aging before they worsen.

All of our expert injectors have extensive experience with Dysport. During your consultation, they will discuss your concerns, goals and desires.

They will then examine the structures of your face, assess the quality of your skin tone and bone structure, and will make recommendations he/she feels will help you achieve your aesthetic goals. They will also discuss any possible risks and complications that could follow your procedure, if applicable. Information on skincare and other procedures that may enhance your overall result will be discussed as well.

We will then provide you with all the financial details on any procedure discussed at your consultation and give financing options if applicable. We can also help facilitate the next step in the process and/or provide additional resources, such as before and after photos, articles, educational videos, etc.

Your Dysport treatment can be done at the same time as your consultation if you decide to proceed after your injector determines you are a good candidate for Dysport.

Dysport works by partially blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles. The result is that the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin begins to smooth out. Untreated muscles continue to function, thus maintaining normal facial expression. This is, however, only temporary. Scientific studies have proven that the treated muscles regain full function within 3 to 6 months. A longer-term solution can be achieved surgically with the endoscopic forehead lift.

The most commonly treated areas include the vertical and horizontal forehead lines, and lines around the eyes (“crow’s feet”). Dysport is also effective in preventing the development of these lines in individuals who see early signs of wrinkling. If administered judiciously, Dysport can also be used to treat lines around the mouth. Dysport will not improve sagging skin, damage from sun exposure, or lines not caused by muscle contraction.

Within 3-7 days you may see a marked improvement in the treated areas with continued improvement for up to 30 days. With the muscle paralyzed, the lines will soften over time with repeated use Dysport. Individual results may vary.

Visible results have been shown to last anywhere from 4-6 months. Most patients feel treatments are needed at 4 month intervals but with continued use, the muscle weakens and treatment is not needed as often.

No sedation or anesthetic is required and normal activities can be resumed immediately. Mild bruising occurs occasionally but can easily be covered with makeup.
