Tear Trough Rejuvenation for Under-Eye Hollowing at Utah Facial Plastics

Hollowing under the eyes, or tear trough formation, often develops for many in the mid to late thirties. For others, it can be a genetic condition that starts earlier, leaving one looking more tired and aged than they actually are. For mild to moderate situations, filler can be injected into the hollow area to restore lost volume. Watch how tear trough rejuvenation for under-eye hollowing works at Utah Facial Plastics. This treatment was done by Alfie Symes, nurse injector under Dr. Scott Thompson and Dr. Douglas Henstrom.

First, lidocaine is injected up through the mid-face to numb the area prior to treatment. A whole is then made with a needle to make space for where the cannula will go to inject Restylane under the eyes.  Using a cannula (blunt tip applicator) minimizes bruising and swelling following treatment.

Alfie Symes then fans the Restylane product throughout the under eye area on both sides to fill it in. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid (naturally found in the skin) filler that lasts approximately 9 months when injected under the eyes. It is the preferred filler, at this time, by all injectors at Utah Facial Plastics.

Once complete, the area is massaged to eliminate and bumps or unevenness. Ice is then applied to help with bruising and swelling as well. Patients are able to resume normal activity immediately after treatment and may experience mild bruising or swelling that typically subsides within 3-7 days.
