Chemical Peels Vs Hydrafacials

Here at Utah Facial Plastics, we offer a number of skin treatments to help with pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and overall skin tone and texture. It’s important to be doing occasional in-office treatments in combination with a good at-home skincare regime for long-term skin health. Two great skin treatments include hydrafacials and chemical peels.

What’s the Difference Between Hydrafacials & Chemical Peels?

So what is the difference? In this article we breakdown chemical peels vs hydrafacials and what you need to know.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels have been used for years by skin specialists everywhere. These treatments are tried and true and work well for skin conditions, such as hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, skin texture concerns and for overall skin health. There are various peels available for different skin conditions. A layer of the solution is topically applied but a certified aesthetician repeatedly until he or she determines when done. Some peels are strong enough that only one layer is needed.

Following a chemical peel, the skin feels tight for a day or two and depending on the peel, may or may not cause peeling of the skin that can last a few days as well. Redness and irritation are common and depending on how strong the peel and how many layers are applied, there may be a few days of downtime. It’s best to do a chemical peel at least one week before an important event if there is concern.

It’s typically recommended patients undergo 3-6 peels with the occasional peel for upkeep. Peels should be spaced out at least one month apart to give the skin time to repair and renew. Chemical peels stimulate collagen production and increase cell turnover to produce a new layer of skin that will feel firm and supple.

HydraFacials

Hydrafacials treatments do more to nourish, exfoliate, cleanse and hydrate the skin. It’s more of an extensive treatment yet not as aggressive. Dead skin cells are suctioned off of the skin, black heads are extracted, and nourishing ingredients are infused back into the skin for immediate glow. These treatments are great to do a few days, or even the day of, a big event to give your skin that red-carpet look.

Treatments are highly relaxing and it’s recommended you do these once every month or two to keep up the beautiful glow and overall health of your skin.

While chemical peels removed the top layer of the skin, hydrafacials clean and hydrate and can infuse similar chemicals into the skin at the same time to provide similar benefits to a chemical peel. For maximum benefits, we often recommend having a chemical peel done first and then a hydrafacial treatment 3-7 days after to remove the dead skin and rehydrate the face since a chemical peel can be somewhat drying.
