Why Lip Filler?
There can be a common misconception that lip filler is only used to get large, puffy, un-natural looking lips but this just isn’t true. Lip filler is used in many different ways with different goals in mind. Common lip fillers are derived from hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body and breaks down over time as we age. What Can You Expect from Lip Fillers?
First and foremost, it is important that you seek out an experienced and credentialed cosmetic injector to ensure the safest results. Our facial plastic surgeons have trained and continue to provide education to our nurse injectors as they provide the majority of our injectable treatments at UFP Aesthetics. A good injector will consult with you and recommend a product that best fits your goals and anatomy as well as an injection plan, and sometimes this involves several visits. We would rather inject less and build up to where you want to be to ensure an optimal outcome.
We provide a medical grade topical numbing cream or dental block to make your lip filler treatment as comfortable as possible. The treatment itself takes about 10-15 minutes, and you can expect some possible swelling and bruising after, but this usually resolves after a few days. Icing or post treatment products like Inhance Post-Injection Serum can be applied to help reduce swelling and bruising. Lip color can be applied 4 hours after treatment to help conceal. It is best to allow two full weeks for swelling and settling to take place before considering further treatment or touch ups.
If for any reason you decide you do not like the change or lip filler treatment in general, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with a safe compound called hyaluronidase. It can be injected and works immediately to reverse the effects of the hyaluronic acid filler.
What Does Lip Filler Look Like?
Lip filler treatments may look different for everyone. Many patients come in with photos of examples of what they are looking for. This can be a helpful guide, but there are also many photos that are altered, or the example may just have a completely different lip anatomy. A good injector will discuss your goals with you and also explain if they are achievable or not. The results really depend on your personal anatomy and what will still look good and natural.
