“Active aging” is definitely trending but no one wants to give away their age if they don’t have to.
Chances are you are spending more time outside, in the sun, all year long…hiking, skiing, gardening, playing golf or tennis. The result of that sun time may be age spots, sometimes called sun spots or liver spots, which typically appear on skin that has had the most exposure over the years to the Ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. Age spots are typically found on the backs of the hands, the face and neck. They are small and flat but they can group together making them appear even larger. Although they are usually harmless, sun spots can be a sure sign of aging.
At Utah Facial Plastics, Dr. Thompson performs a non-invasive, non-abrasive treatment for age spots called FotoFacial which uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) – the cutting-edge technology of the Syneron Laser.
Here’s how it works: The area to be treated is numbed prior to treatment using a numbing cream. Then a hand-piece is used to gently pulse an intense light over the area. The light penetrates the skin, destroying the melanin-producing cells. The generated heat impairs the vessels or lesions without damaging the surface of the skin. After treatment, the skin is cleaned and sun block applied. The treated lesions may darken before they flake off or are absorbed by the body.
Each treatment takes about 20 minutes and can be repeated as often as every 3 to 4 weeks. Discomfort is minimal and there is little or no downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately. Following treatment, your skin will appear smoother with a more even texture. Hydroquinone can be applied to maximize results and keep pigmentation form coming back. It is also important to use sunscreen daily.
Additionally, a FotoFacial can be used to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries, mild acne scars, rosacea, dark circles under the eyes and fine lines around the mouth and eyes.
