The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has released the awaited survey results from 2015 showing the top cosmetic procedures worldwide as well as a one million increase in cosmetic procedures from 2014.
Data was collected on non-surgical and surgical cosmetic treatments from a questionnaire collected from approximately 35,000 plastic surgeons in the world. ISAPS is the only organization that collects such data worldwide and is well known in the global aesthetic community. Such data helps the industry determine trends and evaluate growth.
Top Cosmetic Procedures
Botox remains the number one top cosmetic procedure worldwide with hyaluronic acid injectables in second place. Laser hair removal, photo rejuvenation (IPL) and non-surgical fat reduction round out the top five.
Breast augmentation continues to be the most popular surgical cosmetic procedure with an increase of 10.4% over 2014. The remaining top surgical procedures include liposuction, eyelid surgery, and abdominoplasty.
“We are proud to share these survey results to show the growing momentum in highly practiced areas,” stated Susumu Takayanagi, MD, ISAPS president.
The largest number of active plastic surgeons – 6,500 – are located in the US with Brazil coming in second with 5,500 active plastic surgeons. China came in third with 2,800.
Women Vs Men
Of the total number of cosmetic procedures, women received 18 million (85.6%) with men making of 3 million or 14.4% of the total amount. The most common procedures for women included breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty and rhinoplasty. For men, the top cosmetic procedures were eyelid surgery, liposuction, gynecomastia surgery, rhinoplasty, fat grafting and ear surgery.
Results were compiled and analyzed by Industry Insights, Inc., an independent research firm based in Columbus, OH.
