Blepharoplasty De-Mystified

BlepharoplastyMany of our patients come to us unhappy with the way their eyes are drooping, but unsure about what can be done, short of a complete facelift. But blepharoplasty – also called an eyelid lift – is definitely something that can be done, and it’s much simpler.

Here’s a quick list of questions to help you learn some things about blepharoplasty:

•How is the surgery done? In simple terms, a blepharoplasty is done through small incisions in your eyelids. Any loose, excess skin and fat tissue is removed. The incision is closed with very fine, tiny stitches.

•Is it performed on the upper or lower lid? Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid, or both, depending on your unique needs.

•Will you need anesthesia? An eyelid lift is performed under intravenous sedation, with supplemental local anesthesia.

•How long does the surgery take? This procedure usually requires about two hours.

•Does a blepharoplasty require a hospital stay? This is done as an outpatient procedure. The majority of our patients go home the same day as the surgery.

•What kind of patients request this type of surgery? Eyelid lifts are popular among men and women in their 40s and 50s and 60s.

•What can an eyelid lift do for your appearance? Blepharoplasty can improve the puffiness, loose skin, and bags around your eyes, helping to restore a more youthful appearance. In addition, some people have found that this surgery actually improves their field of vision.

•How long does it takes to recover? You should rest at home for about a few days. Within one to two weeks the bruising and swelling should resolve and you can return to your normal activities.

We invite you to call and schedule a consultation appointment to learn more about a blepharoplasty and to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
