Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments: A Guide

New Year’s resolutions should not be about becoming someone different but continually improving upon who you are and finding greater fulfillment in life. Cosmetic treatments should not be used as a sole source of new-found self-esteem but as a way to look and feel refreshed and enhance your best features. When part of resolve to internally and physically improve in life external cosmetic treatments can help you look and feel your best in 2017. Here are the best non-surgical cosmetic treatments we recommend that take little time and offer maximum results.

1) Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Revealing brighter, more youthful skin makes a big difference on ones appearance, especially for those with pigmentation, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and poor skin texture and tone. There are many options available and the main difference is in how deep they penetrate in to the skin and what they focus on treating.

A tried and true lighter option with minimal downtime is a chemical peel. Chemical peels can can make some individuals wary, but there are many different peels that vary in depth and ingredients that are personalized to each patient for maximum results. Most patients will find that chemical peels are not scary and very effective.  Some peels are light and require no social downtime. Some are more aggressive and work on correcting advanced damage. A licensed skin specialist can customize a peel for your skin type, extent of skin damage, and willingness for downtime. Some chemical peels will produce dry flaking and some will have a layer of skin peeling off completely.

If hyperpigmentation is the main concern, IPL (Intense-Pulse Light)  or BBL (Broad Band Light) treatments will make a huge difference. With either option, the pigmentation is targeted through heat, brought to the surface and then sloughs off. Skin resurfacing treatments like Moxi laser  or Halo are a bit more intense and also help improve acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, and improves the over-all appearance of the skin. They can be done in conjunction with light treatments to target pigment and skin more efficiently.  It is best to have a consultation to determine which methods are correct for your skin tone and condition.

A laser resurfacing treatment will penetrate deepest in the skin and can be non-ablative or ablative treatment. This means the surface layers of the skin peel off revealing brighter more healthy skin underneath after approximately 7 days. More aggressive laser treatments are great for deeper wrinkles, pigmentation, and sun damage. Some patients will have facelift surgery and then do a laser treatment to address the tone and texture of on the surface.

2) Dermal Fillers

The great thing about cosmetic fillers is that treatment is quick with little downtime and the results are typically instant. Dermal fillers are being made to treat different areas of the face, making it a more versatile treatment to address facial aging non-surgically.

Popular options include Juvederm collection of filler for the mid-face, lines and wrinkles, and lip augmentation. Restylane has many great products as well. It’s best to come in for a free consultation to determine which dermal filler or combination of fillers is best for you.

Treatment typically takes about 20-30 minutes with a few days of swelling and the possibility of bruising. UFP Aesthetics nurse injectors use pre-treatment options like topical numbing cream, Pronox, or a dental block to minimize discomfort. Fillers are a quick, non-surgical option to treat lines, volume loss, or define facial features.

3) Botox

Botox or Dysport work incredibly well to smooth out forehead lines, wrinkles between the brow and around the eyes (crow’s feet). Other areas Botox can be used is for lines around the lips, neck bands, and to slim the lower face by weakening the jaw muscle. These treatments are minimally invasive and are considered “lunch time treatments” because they take little time and are not detectible by others.

Botox treatments are quick with a very minimal chance of bruising. Results do take approximately 3-10 days to take effect to it’s best to give yourself some time before a big event to have the treatment done. There really is no other comparison to Botox and other neuromodulator treatments and are very popular for people seeking our correction for forehead wrinkles. If you are someone who isn’t ready or does not want to do Botox, a favorite skin care product that helps address and keeps wrinkles from getting worse is SkinBetter Science Lines. It will not replace the results of Botox or Dysport, but is a nice alternative option.

Skin treatments are best done in maintenance or in a series for best results. Non-surgical cosmetic treatments are never a one and done and requires some form of maintenance for bright, radiant skin. Alone or in combination these treatments can make a profound improvement on ones appearance by brightening the skin, smoothing lines and wrinkles, and rejuvenating areas of volume loss.
