Marijuana for Skincare

Yes, you read that right. We’re talking marijuana for skincare. A recent online publication from Quartzy suggested cannibus as the next “it” ingredient in beauty products.

Researchers are looking at components CBD (cannabidiol), doesn’t result in feeling high, and THC (cannabinoids), which is the substance that produces the high. Dr. Dellavalle, professor of dermatology at the University of Colorado, claims the hype is ahead of the research and there is still much to be learned about marijuana for skincare.

“What we know is that there are two receptors for cannabinoids in the skin. What we don’t know is what the more than 100 active ingredients in cannabis do when they interact with those receptors.”

Research is slow due to the legal complications and researchers don’t currently have the evidence to back up recommendations that will help garner further funding.

There are many skincare products already available that use either whole plant CBD or hempseed oil as an ingredient.  The beneficial claims of CBD or hempseed oil include:

  • All natural skincare
  • Anti-inflammatory properties combat acne and skin afflictions (such as psoriasis)
  • Antioxidant properties minimize fine lines and wrinkles

These benefits make sense in theory but only tell will tell if marijuana for skincare is beneficial or not. Read the full article HERE
