Popular Skin Treatments for Patients Over 40

Patients in their early 40’s are often just beginning to notice signs of aging they’d like to address when they first come to Utah Facial Plastics. As we age, our skin becomes thinner, drier and the cell turnover process in the skin slows down. Patients in their 40’s also start to experience changes in their bodies like peri-menopause, hormonal changes and slowed collagen production. With these changes, they may start to notice laxity of the eyelids, lower face and loss of facial volume. There are many surgical and non-surgical treatment options that we offer to correct and prevent the onset of some of these signs of aging. Being proactive and taking advantage of some of these treatments early on can help slow the aging process and the need for more aggressive treatments down the road.

Injectables

Botox is a neurotoxin that softens or prevents fine lines and wrinkles. Areas where Botox is beneficial is around the eyes (crows feet), between the brows (glabella) and in the forehead. We also use Botox to slim masseter muscles, treat neck bands, smooth “bunny lines” and use superficially to minimize pores.

Filler is another injectable that will help you manage to maintain a timeless appearance. Sculptra is a beneficial filler treatment for patients in their 40’s because it helps your body produce collagen and restore volume in the face. Going to the right provider that is conservative and experienced with Sculptra will ensure a natural, longer-lasting result. Other filler options include Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella and Restylane, to name a few.

Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing treatments like our Fractional CO2 Laser, Venus Viva, chemical peels and skin rejuvenation are all great options for skin health. These skin resurfacing treatments address the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, lax skin, texture and uneven skin tone.

Skincare

Skincare can and will make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin and overall outcome you’ll experience with facial treatments as a combination of at-home and in-office treatments is best. Some essential skincare items that will help maintain radiant, glowing skin include a cleanser, antioxidant serum, moisturizer, retinol and sunscreen.

Cleanser cleanse the face from dirt, makeup and dead skin cells. Some or our favorite cleansers are SkinCeuticals Simply Clean as well as EltaMD’s Foaming Facial Cleanser.

Antioxidant Serums prevent skin damage from the inside out. Popular antioxidants include SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic and SkinBetter’s Alto Defense Serum.

Moisturizers hydrates and nourish the skin. We love SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Moisturizer and SkinMedica’s HA5 Rejuvenating Serum.

Retinol improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and texture. Retinol also increases cell turn over to reveal brighter skin. Popular options includes SkinMedica Retinols (varying strengths) as well as SkinBetter’s Alpharet Overnight Cream.

Sunscreen protects the skin from sun damage and photo-aging. Patients love SkinMedica’s Total Defense and Repair and EltaMD has an amazing line of sunscreen products.
