Thread Lift or Mini Facelift?

Lately, it seems as though anti-aging has become even more of a lunch-hour thing than ever before. We can apply a few injections to minimize frown lines or plump the lips with virtually no recovery period. Now, thanks to thread lift techniques, it seems one can also reverse more significant signs of aging without needing to schedule time off. If you’ve been thinking that a thread lift might be right for you, we encourage you to compare your nearest option, a mini facelift.
How a Thread Lift Works
As it sounds, a thread lift works by holding a deeper plane of tissue with biodegradable sutures. The threads used in this treatment last approximately six months. Their immediate value is that the threads have tiny “cones” that catch onto tissue so that it can be secured in a higher position. Additionally, the body responds to the threads by producing collagen around them. The influx of collagen naturally rejuvenates the appearance of the skin. The question is by how much. Thread lifts can achieve subtle lifting effects that are reached by the provider inserting threads and then gently pushing upwards on the cheeks or other areas. We’re looking at a few millimeters to a few centimeters of lift. The results of this treatment last approximately 21 months.
How a Mini Facelift Works
Drs. Thompson and Henstrom believe that a cosmetic lift should incur long-lasting results. They have spent years perfecting techniques that achieve a natural look that refreshes the face for several years. For individuals who are not ready for a full facelift, they recommend the MACS mini facelift. This minimally invasive technique, like a thread lift, is performed in the office using a local anesthetic. A mild sedative may also be administered. During the mini facelift, tiny incisions are made. The fibrous layer of tissue called the SMAS is then repositioned and secured to structure at the temples. This subtle lift refines the cheeks and jawline and also includes minor liposuction under the chin as needed to correct sagging in this area. The results achieved with the mini facelift are more noticeable than a thread lift and can be expected to last approximately 5 years. That being said, a patient will still appear younger at that point than if they hadn’t undergone a MACSlift procedure.
