What Chemical Peel is Best for You?

Chemical peel treatments involve chemical exfoliants that are applied to remove damaged layers of skin. There are different grades or strengths of chemical peels that vary for depending on individual patient skin issues and patient preference(s). So what chemical peel is best for you?

Light Chemical Peel

Light chemical peels are also referred to as “lunchtime peels” and are the lightest peel you could receive. A light peel means that it is superficial, only removing the outer layer of skin, also known as the epidermis. Although this peel is minimally invasive it still works wonders. With this type of peel our patients notice an improvement in their fine lines, acne, uneven skin tone and dryness. Recovery after a light peel is very mild. Patients can expect mild redness and very little to no peeling.

Medium Chemical Peel

A medium chemical peel will not only remove skin cells from the outer layer (epidermis) but will go deeper into the upper part of the middle layer of your skin (dermis). This type of peel works really well on scars, deeper wrinkles and uneven skin tone. With a medium chemical peel, patients can expect redness and peeling for approximately 7 days.

Deep Chemical Peel

A deep chemical peel makes its way all the way down to the lower dermal of the skin allowing it to correct even deeper wrinkles, sun damaged skin, scars and improves tone and texture. Recovery after a deep peel can take up to 2 weeks to heal. During the recovery process, expect peeling, crusting, redness and moderate discomfort for up to 14 days. Recovery after a deep peel can be a little intense but the results are incredible and long-lasting.

Protect Your Skin

After a chemical peel treatment, our master aestheticians will send you home with a post-care kit and will discuss detailed instructions to follow. They will also discuss with you the importance of sun protection. After treatment, you will definitely want to limit your time in the sun and always wear sunscreen. Wearing a quality sunscreen is a critical step to ensure that the skin stays protected while it heals. We also always recommend protecting your skin once you have healed because it will not only prolong results, but will also protect your skin against sun spots, aging and skin cancer.
