10 FAQs About Botox

Botox is and has been the number one neurotoxin for the last few decades and is only becoming increasingly popular as the years go on. Here are ten commonly asked questions about Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is a prescription medication that is injected into the facial muscles to temporarily weaken or paralyze them. By doing so, it prevents the muscles from contracting, which helps minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the effects of Botox?

When performed correctly by a qualified provider, Botox results should look completely natural.  Botox relaxes the facial muscles, which allows the skin to smooth out. Most people who regularly receive Botox just look well-rested and more youthful.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is one of the safest drugs on the market. In fact, it was the first neurotoxin to be FDA-approved to treat wrinkles in 2002 but has been used as an effective therapy drug since 1989. As with any drug, there are possible risks and complications that can occur but they are extremely rare.

Can I get Botox while pregnant or nursing?

Botox should not be used while nursing or pregnant. There are no studies that indicate the effects it can possibly have on mother or baby.

Where is Botox used?

Botox is used on many areas of the face but the most common areas are the forehead lines, vertical lines between the brows (glabella), and lines around the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet).

Are Botox treatments painful?

Most of our patients comment that they feel minimal discomfort during their Botox treatment. Our providers use tiny needles, making each treatment extremely tolerable.

Who’s a good candidate for Botox?

Candidates for Botox are any man or woman who is concerned about their fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox is also becoming more and more popular among our younger patients who get Botox to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

Is there a “right” age to start getting Botox?

There really isn’t a set age to start getting Botox. As mentioned above, we see a lot of younger patients who receive Botox for preventative purposes. But we also see a lot of first timers in their 30’s and 40’s who are just noticing static lines and wrinkles that are becoming deeper.

When will I see results after my Botox treatment?

Botox generally takes 3-10 days to take effect after each treatment. With consistent treatments, wrinkles and lines will appear softer and softer over time.

How long will my Botox results last?

Results typically last anywhere from 3-6 months. Most patients feel that treatment is needed every 3-4 months for consistent results.
