Once a woman reaches the age of 50, she typically has been noticing a loss of tone, texture, and elasticity in the face and neck. There are a variety of treatments both invasive and non-invasive that can leave an individual with a more refreshed, youthful appearance. Here are some great options that middle-aged women can explore when it comes to the world of facial rejuvenation.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting, also known as fat injections is a surgical procedure that restores volume by using the patient’s own fat. As we age, we tend to lose volume in the form of fat in our facial features causing us to look hollow or tired. Fat is removed from the patient’s abdomen, thighs or back and is placed in areas of the face that can show significant volume loss. These areas include the nasolabial folds, tear troughs, marionette lines, temples and cheek area. Restoring volume to face with fat grafting can replace the use of filler injections and have a more permanent result.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lifts)

Eyelid lifts are an important part of facial rejuvenation because the eyes are one of the first features that are seen on the face. With age, the eyelid skin droops and becomes loose, which causes the eyes to lose definition.

The lower eyelids develop excess skin and/or build fat or heavy “bags” under the eyes. Upper and lower eyelid lifts are commonly done together to achieve upper facial rejuvenation.

Browlift

A browlift or forehead lift is typically recommended when the individual has drooping eyebrows and a consistent “furrowed” look. Botox treatments typically improve the appearance of the forehead and glabellar line, but a surgical approach is sometimes required when the eyebrow and migrated below the brow bone for better correction. A forehead lift involves removing excess skin on the forehead and tightening the skin on the forehead.

Facelift

Facelifts are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for women over 50. Over time, the jawline softens into the jowls, the folds around the mouth deepen, and the neck loosens and begins to sag. A facelift addresses the mid-face and neck by lifting the muscles back into position and removing the excess skin in these areas. A facelift is combined with many  procedures listed above for total facial rejuvenation.

Botox and Filler

Botox and filler are both injectable treatments that everyone should consider once they reach 50 years old. Botox is used to temporarily smooth wrinkles in areas such as the forehead, between the brows (glabella), and around the eyes (crows feet). Over time with consistent treatment, Botox will begin to soften fine lines and wrinkles in these areas.

Filler is used to fill deeper wrinkles and to add volume to many areas of the face. Filler is most often used to soften fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth as well as adding volume to the lips and cheeks. When filler is used results are immediate and lasts anywhere from 6-12 months. Both injectable treatments are being used more now as a preventative treatment than ever before.

Microneedling or Microneedling with RF

Microneedling is a non-invasive skin treatment that is used to treat acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and even pigmentation issues. It is also extremely beneficial for women over 50 because it increases collagen and elastin production which both extremely diminish with age.

Microneedling treatments such as Morpheus 8 which is combined with radio frequency therapy, is a more aggressive treatment to firm the skin and improve texture. The needles penetrate the skin deeper than regular microneedling and enhance collagen stimulation. It is a great non-invasive option for those who are in the early stages of skin laxity or don’t want to have surgery.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is an aesthetic procedure that uses chemical exfoliants to remove damaged layers of the skin. Chemical peels vary in strength, some are superficial while others are much deeper and more aggressive. Chemical peels are typically performed as a series of treatments based on the amount and depth of photodamage, sun spots, wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation. Once a series of treatments is complete, patients can visually see tighter, brighter, and overall clearer looking skin.

Skin care treatments are always enhanced with a good at-home skin care regimen. It is very important to prevent signs of aging and promote healthy skin. Visit Utah Facial Plastics online store to see our favorite medical grade products.
