Laser Resurfacing: Everything You Need To Know For Your Skin Type

Laser Resurfacing at UFP

You have probably heard of the term laser resurfacing, but you aren’t quite sure what it means. Laser treatments tend to have people hesitant, as it sounds aggressive with long periods of downtime. UFP Aesthetics is here to educate you on a variety of treatments and what they can do for you.

We have researched and demo’ d many different machines to determine what is best for our practice and the majority of our treatments are with a company called Sciton. Sciton is an established leader in energy-based devices and offers a variety of laser treatments that are both safe and effective for treating multiple skin concerns ranging from acne, lines, and pigmentation. Sciton uses state-of-the-art technology that minimizes downtime and increases efficiency. Here are the treatments that are offered at UFP Aesthetics and what you can expect with each treatment.

Moxi

Moxi is one of Sciton’s newest laser treatments and it was designed for those who are younger or have earlier signs of damage and aging. It provides a resurfacing treatment without aggressive resurfacing and downtime, still offering great results. It is non-ablative and treats the superficial layers of the skin. Moxi can treat all skin types and body areas anytime of the year, making it a great option for many. This treatment is usually best done in a series of 3 at 4 weeks apart to give the skin type to remove damage and rejuvenate.

Moxi takes approximately 45 minutes to treat the face, and patients can expect 2-3 days of social downtime. The skin can be covered with makeup after 48 hours while healing.

Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser

The Halo laser is the first ever hybrid laser that targets multiple layers of skin while addressing multiple skin concerns. This treatment is different from other fractional treatments because it requires less downtime, is safe for all skin types, and delivers both fractional (ablative) and non-fractional (non-ablative) wavelengths to the same area. It is addressing the upper damaged layers of the skin along with the deeper layers where new collagen and skin is regenerated.

During a Halo treatment, both the tone and texture of the skin is being improved. Each Halo treatment is customized to the individual needs of the patient based on concerns and lifestyle. Halo can dramatically improve sun damage, discoloration, dull skin, enlarged pores and visible signs of aging in just one to two treatments.

The Halo is one of the more aggressive laser treatments usually individuals only need one or two treatments, although it can be customized to be less or more invasive per individual. You can expect approximately 1 week on social and outdoor downtime with this treatment.

NanoLaser Peel and Contour TRL

NanoLaser Peel and Contour TRL are both resurfacing lasers that are used to treat damaged, aging skin. Both of these treatments remove the top layer of the skin while stimulating new skin cells and collagen production.

The NanoLaser Peel is less painful and requires less recovery than the Contour TRL. Following a treatment, the skin will look red and can be dry or patchy for a few days following treatment. Just days after treatment, obvious improvement in the tone, texture, and overall color will be apparent as the skin heals. Nanopeel usually requires multiple treatments for optimal results, similar to Moxi.

If you are looking for a slightly more aggressive treatment, the Contour TRL provides individuals with more aggressive results. The Contour TRL is a deeper resurfacing treatment that improves wrinkles, sun damage and uneven skin tone. This laser treatment removes the top layer of the skin which stimulates new collagen over the next 4 to 6 months and creates firmer, tighter, and brighter skin.

BBL (Broad Band Light) Treatment

BBL (Broad Band Light) is a non-invasive and non-abrasive treatment that targets discoloration. BBL uses the power of light to target multiple skin conditions such as sun damage, aging, hyperpigmentation, acne, broken capillaries, rosacea, and redness.

BBL uses advanced technology to help make these treatments much more tolerable than traditional IPL treatments. The procedure does not require topical numbing and takes approximately 20 minutes for the face area. Patients are usually red following treatment, which typically declines in 24 hours. Brown spots become darker compared to coffee grounds and can take 1-2 weeks to lift and flake off. Individuals may want to plan for some social downtime with this treatment, but the skin can be concealed with a tinted SPF or makeup. Refraining from outdoor downtime should be a must for 1-2 weeks with rigorous sun protection. BBL can be combined with some of our skin resurfacing treatments to treat both tone and texture for optimal results.

Forever Clear BBL Acne Treatment

With just a few Forever Clear BBL Acne Treatment, you can have clearer and blemish free skin. Forever Clear BBL uses BBL (Broad Band Light) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to deliver energy into the skin, which helps to eliminate acne causing bacteria. It also helps improve discoloration from scarring.

During your treatment the skin is first treated with BLUE BBL Light that targets acne bacteria deep in the pores. Then the skin is treated with YELLOW BBL Light, which reduces inflammation and redness to restore a clearer complexion.

The best candidate for this treatment is someone who suffers from active acne. Forever Clear BBL Acne Treatment does require approximately 6 treatments but could be less or more depending on the severity of the acne. Individuals are somewhat red following treatment, but this usually declines within 24 hours essentially creating no social downtime for individuals.

What To Expect with Laser Resurfacing

The majority of these treatments require topical numbing cream to help make the treatment tolerable. The skin usually feels tender, rough, swollen, and red following treatment. This ranges depending on how aggressive.  Many people know the term Co2 when it comes to laser resurfacing. Co2 can be much more painful, yet effective and has been around for many years, but new technology has surfaced, and treatments are more controlled and customizable to each individual. It is best to always consult with an experienced provider to disclose your concerns and wants so that they are able to direct you down the best path for treatment. UFP Aesthetics has an amazing laser technician and estheticians who are specialized in these treatments for optimal and safe results. Learn about laser hair removal here.
