Botox has been the most popular cosmetic procedure for a number of years and only continues to grow in popularity. In 2017 alone, over 7.2 million Botox cosmetic procedures were performed in the US. It’s no wonder as Botox has proven to be a safe, effective way to soften lines and wrinkles in the face and neck. Botox works by weakening the muscle, therefore keeping it from contracting to create wrinkles.
Where Botox Is Used
Botox is FDA approved for use in the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox is often used for other areas where it is considered “off-label”. Botox is used in the upper lip to treat a “gummy smile” and/or help with fine lines around the mouth. For dimples in the chin or an “orange-peel” looking appearance, a small amount of Botox can be injected into the chin to smooth the skin. Botox is also used in the jaw to slim the lower face and help with clenching or for protruding bands in the neck.
