Every patient that comes to us for a facelift starts off by saying, “I want to look as young as I feel”. There is not an exact age when it comes to getting a facelift. Our surgeons have done MACSlifts and facelifts on patients who are in their 40’s all the way up to patients i their 70’s and 80’s. Regardless of how old you are, be sure that you are emotionally and physically ready for a facelift.
Facial Aging
It is not just age that determines whether or not you need a facelift. Other signs of facial aging include; loss of skin elasticity, loss of muscle tone, sagging jowls and moderate wrinkling. Our MACSlift is a less invasive procedure for our patients who want to tighten and lift the lower portion of the face. The traditional facelift would be a better option for those that have moderate or severe sagging in the lower face and neck. However, our surgeons recommendations vary from patient to patient. Someone who may think that they need a facelift may be a better candidate for a MACSlift and vice versa.
Health
Just like any surgery, it is important to be in good physical and mental health. Being in good physical health will prevent any extra risk during your procedure. During your initial consultation, it’s important to talk to your doctor about any health concerns you may have. You also want to be mentally prepared as most patients do not feel like themselves the first 7-10 days.
Recovery Time
After having a facelift, you will need about two to three weeks to recover. For at least the first few days, you may need a little extra help so be prepared to have someone that can assist if needed. It’s important to plan enough down time from work other obligations so you don’t feel rushed with your recovery.
Maintenance
Getting a facelift does not mean that you may never want or need to have Botox or filler again. We recommend that you continue getting Botox every 3-5 months to prevent wrinkles from becoming deeper. Filler can also be useful as needed and desired. Taking care or your face and skin post surgery is very important and will help maintain your results. This is why we give all of our facelift patients a skincare kit. Other maintenance options include laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and Hydrafacials or Dermasweeps.
