The Latest Trends in Facial Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic trends are forever changing. In 2016, the trend was all about the full “Kylie pout” using fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. Here we are in 2019 and the pendulum has swung the other way. Patients are now desiring a more natural-looking appearance with lip enhancement and all cosmetic procedures in general. The goal is to look as though nothing has been done with modest tweaks and minor procedures to maintain beauty and youthfulness.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), Millennials (22-37 years old) are driving the demand for cosmetic procedures. Since 2013, the number of surgical procedures have nearly doubled (up 47%).

Pre-Juvenation

Millennials are focusing on preventative care and are taking the aging process into their own hands. They are more serious about skin health and doing things to improve their appearance both at home and at aesthetic offices. Some preventative treatments millennials are desiring include Botox, fillers to enhance and rejuvenate features such as lips and under eyes. Skin treatments, such as lasers, chemical peels and skin rejuvenation are also popular. These treatments are subtle, non-invasive and brighten the skins tone and texture.

Surgical Trends

While non-surgical options are in high demand, surgical options still remain popular. Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the top surgical options that is trending this year. Rhinoplasty improves the appearance of the nose and can be combined with functional procedures to address breathing concerns at the same time if needed. Rhinoplasty surgery is individualized as everyone has different anatomy and different goals for outcome. Natural-looking results with a rhinoplasty can be achieved with the right surgeon. The goal for both Drs. Thompson and Henstrom is to improve the appearance of your nose without giving it a “surgical look”.

Most patients report wanting to look better while still maintaining their unique appearance. We believe that looking your best promotes more confidence and a higher level of self esteem.

Whether you are thinking about any of these pre-juvenation or surgical trends this year, be sure to choose a reputable board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in the face. Some ways to ensure that you do not end up looking “unnatural” are by talking to friends, reading reviews and viewing before and after pictures before choosing a provider.
