How much does chin contouring cost?

Overview of Chin Contouring

Chin contouring, or genioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reshape or enhance the chin’s appearance, ultimately transforming one’s facial profile and boosting self-esteem. Whether you’re dreaming of a sharper jawline or seeking balance in your facial features, chin contouring can be a compelling solution to achieve that desired aesthetic.

This procedure falls into two primary categories: surgical and non-surgical methods. Surgical chin contouring may involve techniques such as chin reduction, which removes bone to create a more harmonious proportion, or chin augmentation where implants are inserted to enhance volume. Another popular surgical choice is the sliding genioplasty, a procedure that repositions the chin bone itself for optimal placement and result.

On the other hand, non-surgical options provide less invasive solutions that often involve dermal fillers or fat grafting to artfully sculpt the chin without downtime. These fillers can temporarily add volume and reshape the area, making them ideal for patients who prefer subtle enhancements.

Of course, each person’s journey toward chin contouring is unique and should be approached carefully. Selecting a qualified surgeon is crucial because their experience influences not only the final appearance but also your safety during the procedure. It’s also worth noting that while non-surgical options may seem appealing due to their lower cost and quick recovery times, they often require regular touch-ups to maintain desired results. Thus, having extensive discussions with your chosen professional will lay the groundwork for what fits your needs best.

Whether opting for surgical or non-surgical methods shapes your decision depends on your personal preferences and goals. Each approach carries its costs, recovery times, and expected outcomes; therefore, understanding these nuances can empower you to take steps toward your ideal appearance confidently.

So how much does chin contouring cost?

Four Chin Contouring Options and Their Cost

Facelift

Pricing typically ranges from $12,000 – $24,000*

$12,000 for the MACS facelift and anywhere from $14,500 – $24,000 for a full deep plane facelift

A facelift is the most invasive of the four chin contouring options that we’re going to be talking about today. A good candidate for a facelift is someone with excess skin, moderate to severe wrinkles and sagging jowls. Because of the skin laxity in the lower face, patients may notice that their chin and lower face are beginning to lose the natural contour they once had as they age.

Our surgeons customize all facelift and MACSlift (in-office mini facelift) procedures according to the needs and anatomy of each individual patient. Often times, during the initial consultation an additional procedure or procedures may be recommended by your surgeon to provide the best possible outcome for you. One common recommendation is a pre-jowl implant to help strengthen the chin and jawline. With age, the jowls begin to droop and create what is called a “pre-jowl sulcus” on either side of the chin. To create a smooth transition between the chin and jawline, a small pre-jowl implant may be recommended for enhanced results.

The price for a facelift varies depending on what procedures are done and how long the surgery will take. Pricing typically ranges from $14,500 – $24,000* with or without facility and anesthesia charges. MACSlift procedures are done in-office and do not require an additional anesthesia charge. It’s best to come in for a consultation for an exact price quote.

Submental Liposuction

Submental liposuction costs $7,500. The surgeons fee for submental liposuction is approximately $3,500 and the chin implant starts at $4,000. Together the expected cost is $7,500.

Submental liposuction (removal of fat from under the chin) is a really great way to achieve a more chiseled chin and jawline. This procedure can be done alone or is sometimes paired with a chin implant. Submental liposuction requires minimal to moderate downtime and can be done in-office, which helps save on cost.

Kybella

Kybella is $750 costs per session.

Kybella is a great non-surgical alternative to submental liposuction and typically recommended for patients with mild to moderate fullness under the chin. Patients with more excessive fullness are typically better candidates for submental liposuction, which can provide a better result and is more economical for the patient. Kybella does requires a series of treatments, typically between 2 and 4, though up to 6 treatments can be done. Two vials are  usually recommended per session for optimal results. At this time, the cost for one session (two vials) is $850*.

Filler

Volluma currently costs $850 per syringe.

Voluma is another non-surgical option to improve chin contour. Of all the options that we offer, filler is the only one that is not permanent. Voluma lasts approximately 2 years and costs $775* per syringe. Some patients may need more than one syringe for full correction. Filler is often used to augment and contour in combination with Kybella, which removes the fat under the chin.

Additional Chin Contouring Expenses to Consider

When planning for chin contouring, it’s crucial to understand that the cost extends far beyond the initial fee for the procedure itself. Post-operative care is often overlooked yet can significantly impact your overall budget. For instance, prescription medications for pain management and anti-inflammatories could run anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on your specific needs. These are essential for easing discomfort during your recovery, making them a necessary expense rather than an optional one.

Alongside medications, follow-up appointments with your surgeon typically occur within a few weeks after the procedure. These visits ensure that your healing process is on track and may involve additional evaluations that come with their own fees—often in the range of $100 to $300 per visit. Moreover, if any issues arise during recovery, you might require more frequent check-ins, further contributing to costs.

Furthermore, time off work should also be factored into your budget. Many individuals find they need anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to fully recover and return to their usual activities. Depending on your job situation, this could mean lost wages amounting to several hundred dollars or even more if you’re self-employed or lack paid leave options.

It’s important to itemize these costs:

  • Medications: $50 – $200
  • Follow-up Appointments: $100 – $300 each
  • Lost Wages: Varies by individual circumstances

Additionally, don’t forget about potential changes in lifestyle following the procedure. You might need post-surgical bras or garments designed specifically for support during healing, which could set you back another $50 to $150. It’s essential to consider all these aspects when calculating the total investment required.

Planning for these associated costs provides a clearer picture of what to expect financially and allows you to prepare adequately for the entire process. Understanding these details helps ensure you’re ready for the next steps in your journey toward chin augmentation.

Insurance Coverage for Chin Contouring

consultation room overview

Most chin contouring procedures, while enhancing one’s appearance, are generally categorized as cosmetic. This means typical insurance plans often refuse coverage for surgeries aimed solely at aesthetics. However, there are exceptions. If a procedure addresses medical issues such as correcting congenital deformities or reconstructing a chin after severe trauma, insurance may consider it necessary and cover part or all of the costs.

To navigate this complex landscape, it’s essential to consult not just with your surgeon but also directly with your insurance provider before making decisions. Having this dialogue early can clarify what documentation you’ll need to present and the specific medical justifications that could sway their decision in your favor.

Some patients have had success appealing for partial coverage by providing detailed medical explanations of why the surgery is imperative for their health. These justifications can range from functional issues caused by a poorly structured jawline to psychological impacts stemming from facial aesthetics. Presenting comprehensive evidence can significantly bolster your case.

Furthermore, every insurance plan is different, so understanding your specific policy terms is crucial. You might find that some companies offer limited coverage under certain conditions, such as having documentation from healthcare providers that outlines the necessity of the procedure.

Knowing these aspects about insurance coverage enhances not only your financial preparedness but also provides peace of mind during your chin contouring journey.

In considering chin contouring, it’s important to weigh not just the cost but also the potential benefits to both your appearance and self-esteem. Understanding your insurance options upfront can be a valuable step in this process.
