Guys Are Getting Botox and Dermal Fillers Too

For years, injectable treatments like Botox and dermal fillers have been a focal point in medical aesthetics, an industry shaped around top-of-the-line beauty regimens and cutting-edge cosmetic treatments. There is however a common misconception that this industry is geared only toward women, which has proven over time to be untrue. In reality, many men care about their appearance just as much as women, and men are seeking aesthetic treatment more than ever before.

Botox For Men

Botox for Men

Since becoming FDA approved in 2002, Botox has remained a high-demand solution for unwanted fine lines and wrinkles. This injectable treatment works by temporarily relaxing muscles in the face, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance. While early on Botox may have been thought to be a treatment for women, more and more men have been enjoying the benefits of Botox. So much so that the term “Brotox” has become widely used among MedSpa’s and aesthetic treatment facilities near and far. Botox is commonly used among men to reduce the appearance of crows feet, forehead lines, and frown lines, though treatments are tailored individually depending on the preferences of the patient.

Botox is priced per unit and the number of units needed can vary depending on the areas being treated. It should be noted that men typically require more units than women because of stronger skin and muscle density in the face. Although it is more common in men to still want some movement. It can take up to two weeks for Botox to take full effect and you should keep in mind that there is a chance of bruising for up to two weeks after treatment, but is usually minimal. To get a better idea of how many units you might need or what to expect from this quick treatment, the best thing to do is to schedule a consultation with a certified injector.

Dermal Fillers vs. Botox for Men

Hyaluronic Acid or HA fillers are the most used dermal fillers on the market. These fillers are metabolized by the body over time and there are several different versions designed to treat specific areas of the face. For men, dermal fillers are commonly used to treat the chin and jawline to achieve a squarer or more “masculine” look. Dermal fillers can be used in several other areas of the face to sculpt, balance or add volume, depending on the individual preference of the patient.

Dermal fillers are priced per syringe and like with Botox, the amount needed greatly depends on what area is being treated. Sometimes patients may need several syringes over time (especially for chin and jawline treatment) in order to achieve the desired look. There is a risk of some bruising and swelling after receiving dermal fillers and patients should expect to be fully recovered from treatment within two weeks. Like Botox, dermal fillers should be done by an experienced, certified injector. Risking injury or unwanted results for less cost or convenience is not worth it.

How Long Do Injectable Treatments Last?

While Botox and dermal fillers are both injectable treatments used for cosmetic purposes, they are different treatments used to achieve different results. The timeline of how long each treatment lasts is also different, with Botox lasting 3-4 months and dermal fillers lasting up to 1 year or longer on average. For patients wanting to follow a regular Botox routine, it is recommended that they schedule with their injector every few months. For patients wanting to keep up with their filler, it is recommended to schedule around every 6 months to have their injector determine if they are ready for more filler. An injectable schedule really may be different for everyone and even doing it once a year is ideal for some. Preventative injectable treatments may not need to be done as often, where corrective may need to be done more initially until lines are softened and then you can consider a less often maintenance schedule.
