The Latest Designer Injectables You Need To Know About

You heard that right…designer injectables. We’re not talking ‘designer’ as it applies to designer jeans or jewelry. Designer injectables are those that are formulated and ‘designed’ for specific areas of the face providing more options for full facial rejuvenation. This exciting trend is only going to get bigger as the demand for non-surgical cosmetic treatment options continues to increase.

Restylane Silk

We’ve all heard of Restylane, a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler that has been around for a number of years. It’s commonly been used for folds around the mouth and for under-eye hollowing. Restylane Silk is a new formulation of the product that is specifically designed for lip augmentation and to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth that other HA’s may be too thick for. If you’re looking to perfect your pout and smooth lip lines, Restylane Silk is just right for you.

Juvederm Voluma XC

Again, you’ve likely heard of Juvederm and maybe even Voluma as it’s now been out for almost a full year. Voluma is a thicker formulation of Juvederm, also a hyaluronic acid, and is specifically designed for the mid-face or cheek area. By restoring volume that is naturally lost with aging, a more youthful appearance can be achieved in one short visit to your plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Many patients of all ages love Voluma to augment or define their cheekbones – think Keira Knightley, Cate Blanchett, and Rosie Hungtinton. What’s the best thing about Voluma? Studies show it can last up to 2 years. That’s longer than any other HA on the market.

The Latest in Development

Other current designer injectables include Radiesse for hand rejuvenation and Bellafill for acne scarring. But what’s most exciting are the new options projected to receive FDA approval for use in the United States that are coming down the pipeline.

A new form of Belotero called “Belotero Soft” should be available for use in the near future to address superficial lines in sensitive areas of the face. Teosyal Pure Sense Kiss will be another option to enhance and contour the lip. Though not an actual injectable, a ground-breaking new treatment that many are excited about is topical Botox, officially known as RT001.

RT001 by Revance Therapeutics has been teasing us for a number of years now.  The good news is that the company just announced earlier this month that a phase 3 study for crow’s feet (lateral canthal) will take place during the second half of this year. They will also be enrolling RT001 in a phase 2 study for treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).  Finally needle-phobes have something to be excited about!

Newer, easier ways to become wrinkle-free is certainly exciting. But it’s best to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to determine what injectables, or combination of injectables, are right for you.
