Dr. Douglas Henstrom is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and head and neck specialist (otolaryngology), bringing a rare combination of elite training, academic leadership, and patient-centered care to Utah Facial Plastics.

After earning his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, where he was recognized as an academic all-conference athlete, Dr. Henstrom completed medical school at the University of Iowa. He went on to pursue advanced surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, followed by a highly competitive two-year fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Harvard through the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, one of the most prestigious programs in the country.

Prior to joining Utah Facial Plastics, Dr. Henstrom served as the Director of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Iowa, a nationally recognized program. In this role, he led a busy clinical practice while training and mentoring more than 30 residents and fellows, helping shape the next generation of surgeons. He has also contributed extensively to the field through published research, textbook chapters, and academic lectures.

Dr. Henstrom was carefully selected to join Utah Facial Plastics by Dr. Scott K. Thompson, who recognized his exceptional surgical skill, experience, and results. Today, his practice is dedicated exclusively to the face, head, and neck, allowing him to deliver a comprehensive and specialized approach to both aesthetic and reconstructive care.

Guided by his philosophy that plastic surgery should never look or feel plastic, Dr. Henstrom is known for creating results that are natural, balanced, and undetectable. He takes a thoughtful, individualized approach to each patient, combining surgical procedures, injectables, skin resurfacing, and medical-grade skincare to achieve harmonious, long-lasting outcomes.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Henstrom remains actively involved in humanitarian efforts through the Hirsche Smiles Foundation, originally founded by his late father-in-law, Dr. Blayne Hirsche. His work with the foundation began before medical school and continues today, helping provide life-changing surgical care for children with congenital deformities, including cleft lip and palate. This ongoing commitment reflects both a personal legacy and a deep dedication to serving those in need.

Dr. Henstrom lives in Utah with his wife and six children. Outside of his practice, he enjoys skiing, traveling, working on bonsai trees, supporting BYU athletics, and spending time with his family.
