Pre-Care Instructions for Botox/Dysport & Fillers
To ensure the best results, please follow these pre-care guidelines:
- Avoid blood thinners such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Ginkgo Biloba, and Primrose Oil at least one week before your treatment.
- Limit alcohol consumption 1-2 days prior to your appointment to reduce the risk of bruising.
- Plan your procedures 2-3 weeks before any important events to account for potential bruising and swelling.
- No dental work for at least two weeks before treatment.
- Consider taking Arnica before your treatment to help minimize bruising (available at our office).
- Come to your appointment makeup-free for optimal results.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding patients are not candidates for neurotoxins or dermal fillers.
- Avoid Botox/Dysport if you have a neuromuscular disorder.
- Eat a light meal before your appointment, as treatment on an empty stomach can cause lightheadedness or fainting.
Post-Care Instructions for Botox/Dysport & Fillers
For the best results and minimal downtime, follow these post-care instructions:
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
- Do not apply makeup for at least 4 hours after treatment, though waiting 24 hours is preferable.
- If bruising occurs, avoid alcohol for 1-2 days as it can worsen bruising.
- Continue avoiding blood-thinning medications for up to one week post-treatment.
- Consider taking Arnica after treatment to speed up healing of bruising.
- Contact the office immediately if the treated areas become red or warm to the touch days after your treatment.
Additional After-Care for Botox/Dysport
- Avoid lying down for 4 hours post-treatment to prevent the product from migrating.
- Refrain from massaging or applying pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours, including avoiding tight hats if your forehead was treated.
- Be patient—full results may take up to two weeks to appear. We do not perform additional injections within two weeks.
- Follow up with your injector after two weeks for any tweaks.
- The average effect lasts 3-4 months, but some movement may return after 8-10 weeks.
Additional After-Care for Fillers
- Avoid dental work for two weeks post-treatment to allow for proper healing.
- Do not massage the treated areas. The filler will settle and soften naturally.
- Contact the office immediately if you notice patchy blotches, severe or increasing pain, or if the treated area becomes red or warm to the touch.
