Expert Rhinoplasty Serving the Park City Area
Utah Facial Plastics provides rhinoplasty for Park City area patients through nearby offices in Heber City, Draper, and Layton. Rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, reshapes the nose to improve its appearance, its function, or both.
Your care is led by Dr. Scott Thompson, founder of Utah Facial Plastics, and Dr. Douglas Henstrom, double board-certified facial plastic surgeons with more than 60 years of combined experience. Their dual training in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery is especially valuable for patients who have both cosmetic concerns and functional breathing issues. During consultation, digital imaging may be used to help visualize possible outcomes. Imaging is a planning and communication tool, not a guarantee of results.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Dr.Henstrom is an amazing surgeon. I had a closed rhinoplasty bump shave. He was very kind and listened to all of my concerns about my nose. He gave his input on what I wanted to fix and never pressured me to get more than I wanted done. I would 1000% recommend going to him for your procedures. I am in love with my new nose so far and cannot wait to see the end result.

What Rhinoplasty Can Do
A skilled facial plastic surgeon can change the size, shape, and structure of the nose: narrowing or straightening the bridge, refining the tip, adjusting the nostrils, or improving overall symmetry so the nose fits the face more naturally. Rhinoplasty generally serves one or more of these goals:
- Improved Facial Harmony
Reshaping the bridge, tip, or nostrils so the nose balances with the rest of the face. The aim is never a generic nose, but a result that looks natural and like you. - Better Breathing
When breathing problems come from internal structure, a septoplasty can straighten a deviated septum and address nasal valve issues, often combined with cosmetic reshaping. - Long-Lasting Change
Because surgery alters bone, cartilage, and soft tissue, the structural changes are designed to last, though healing takes time and outcomes are not guaranteed. - Reconstructive Needs
Rhinoplasty can also restore the nose after trauma, prior surgery, or congenital concerns.
Rhinoplasty Procedures at Utah Facial Plastics
Primary Rhinoplasty
First-time nose surgery for cosmetic refinement, functional improvement, or both. It can address nasal size, shape, symmetry, bridge height, nostril width, tip projection or droop, and breathing.
Primary rhinoplasty may use an open approach, with a small external incision for maximum visibility during intricate work, or a closed approach, with all incisions inside the nostrils and no visible scarring, depending on what the case calls for.
Revision Rhinoplasty
A more complex surgery to correct aesthetic or functional issues from a previous procedure, such as asymmetry, persistent obstruction, over-resection, or tip concerns.
Revision rhinoplasty requires advanced expertise because the surgeon works with altered anatomy and scar tissue, and sometimes needs cartilage from the septum, ear, or rib for support.
Preservation Rhinoplasty
An advanced technique that keeps more of the nose's native structure intact, especially the bridge and support framework, which can maintain natural dorsal lines.
Septoplasty
Corrects a deviated septum to improve breathing. Performed alone or combined with cosmetic rhinoplasty when both airway and appearance are concerns.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Liquid rhinoplasty or non-surgical rhinoplasty uses injectable filler to temporarily smooth a small bump, improve contour symmetry, or create the look of a slightly lifted tip, with no downtime. Results last roughly 9 to 18 months.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot reduce nasal size, change bone or cartilage, or correct breathing, and because the nose has delicate vascular anatomy, it must be performed by an experienced provider.

Recovery & Follow-Up
Recovery from rhinoplasty varies by patient and the complexity of the case. Generally, visible swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes ease over the first one to two weeks, with many patients planning about a week of social downtime. If a cast or splint is used, it typically comes off within the first week. Subtle swelling at the nasal tip continues to settle over the following months as the final shape refines. Keeping your head elevated early on can help reduce swelling. Post-operative care includes incision care, activity guidance, and scheduled follow-ups. Because of Utah's dry mountain climate, hydration, gentle nasal moisture care, and sun protection support healing. Follow your surgeon's specific aftercare instructions closely.

Tailoring Procedures to You
Surgical expertise for cosmetic concerns, breathing problems, or both.
Every nose, face, and breathing concern is different, so the right approach depends on your anatomy, goals, surgical history, and whether your concerns are cosmetic, functional, or both. Utah Facial Plastics commonly tailors rhinoplasty for:
Functional Concerns: Evaluating the septum, nasal valves, and support structures for patients with obstruction, trauma, valve collapse, or prior surgery.
Male Rhinoplasty: About 34 percent of Utah Facial Plastics rhinoplasty patients are men, with attention to appropriate nasal strength, projection, and masculine balance.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty: Refining the nose while respecting and preserving each patient's natural features.
Teenage Rhinoplasty: Considered only after completed facial growth, around 15 to 16 for females and 17 to 18 for males, with emotional maturity and family support.
Digital imaging during consultation helps you and your surgeon discuss possible outcomes, but these images are simulations, not promises.
Utah Facial Plastics Rhinoplasty Process
- Consultation:Â A comprehensive evaluation of nasal anatomy, appearance, and breathing. Your surgeon discusses your concerns, medical history, any prior trauma or surgery, and whether your goals are cosmetic, functional, or reconstructive. Imaging may be used to aid the discussion, but it is not a guarantee.
- Surgical Planning:Â Your surgeon develops a plan based on skin thickness, bone shape, cartilage strength, septal position, nasal valve function, and facial proportions, including whether an open or closed approach fits the case. You will receive pre-operative instructions covering medications, what to avoid, rest, and travel logistics for Park City area patients.
- Surgery: Rhinoplasty is performed by Dr. Scott Thompson or Dr. Douglas Henstrom, not nurse injectors or non-surgical providers. It may involve reshaping bone, refining cartilage, straightening the septum, supporting the nasal valves, narrowing the bridge, or refining the tip. If added support is needed, cartilage may be taken from the septum, ear, or rib, which is more common in revision and complex cases.
- Recovery and Follow-Up:Â Recovery varies by patient and the complexity of the case. Generally, visible swelling and bruising ease over the first one to two weeks, with many patients planning about a week of social downtime, and subtle swelling continues to settle over the following months as the final shape refines. Keeping the head elevated early on can help. Because of Utah's dry mountain climate, hydration, gentle nasal moisture care, and sun protection support healing. Follow your surgeon's specific aftercare instructions closely.
Why Utah Facial Plastics
Utah Facial Plastics focuses exclusively on the face, head, and neck, which lets the team bring specialized facial plastic expertise rather than general cosmetic surgery to every case. Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically demanding facial procedures, and it rewards that kind of focused experience.
Care is led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeons, including Dr. Scott Thompson, the practice's founder, and Dr. Douglas Henstrom, who trained at the Mayo Clinic and completed a fellowship at Harvard through the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Both hold certification from the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the relevant boards for surgery of the face and nose. You can meet the full team on the Meet Our Surgeons page.

Rhinoplasty Resource Guide
Rhinoplasty is generally considered after facial growth is complete, around 15 to 16 for females and 17 to 18 for males, because the nose and facial skeleton should be stable. Emotional maturity, realistic expectations, and family support matter for younger patients. Earlier intervention may be appropriate for significant breathing obstruction or trauma.
Roughly 9 to 18 months, depending on the filler, the amount used, placement, and how your tissue responds. It can temporarily smooth minor contour concerns without downtime, but it cannot reduce nasal size, straighten a severely deviated septum, or replace surgery for breathing problems.
Completed facial growth, realistic expectations, and concerns that rhinoplasty can reasonably address: nose size, bridge or tip shape, asymmetry, nostril width, breathing obstruction, a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, prior trauma, or dissatisfaction after a previous surgery. Your surgeon evaluates your nose, septum, valves, skin, and overall health to determine whether surgery can safely improve appearance, function, or both.
